Prime 95 overheating?

I recently installed the Devil's Canyon i7 in my rig, and I'm using my old Hyper 212 Plus cooler for sentimental reasons.

I want to stress test my rig, and compare temps from a few different cooling modifications (TIM brand, cooler mounting style, etc)

The problem I face is: when using the latest Prime95 (28.7 64-bit SmallFFT Test) I'm getting MUCH hotter temps than my old version (26.6 64-bit SmallFFT Test) somewhere around 20C cooler on the old version.

I am aware that AVX/AVX2 instructions in the newer version are the culprit, but should I test with it anyway or stick to the old one? Will using the old one produce test results that are somehow invalid?

If using the old version makes it somehow invalid, than you cannot compare to the old setup anyways. I always use the same version of a software to compare apples to apples. Otherwise you are throwing an orange into the mix.

Stick with the newer version. Some say it's extreme, but I say the more extreme the test the better. It'll ensure the stability of your rig.

do not use prime on new gen intel
use OCC-linpack or intel burn test
running small FFT does not test for stability all it does it pump a lot of voltage into the chip

I'm keeping all my settings stock, and will be using the same version of Prime95 for all tests (just haven't picked which), was just curious if I should pick the new and stick to it or pick the old and stick to it. The independent variable in these tests should be the cooler configuration itself.

One would think the hotter test is best to stress the cooler, but I am reading that it could potentially be damaging. The old test isn't near as hot so I'm not sure if saying "oh I got x temp on Prime Small FFT" would be valid. (likely not)

prime95 has too many variables to be of much use.. there are many better more consistent stress and heat testers..

i like using the cpu burner that comes with furmark.. you can even use the stress tester that is built into cpu-z.. wprime is one that often gets used..
