well... its a 5yo psu.
i dont think a PSU have degraded capacitors within only 5 years. Please correct me if im wrong
and this PSU have a lot of protections (OVP/UVP/OCP/OPP/OTP/SCP/OLP), so i dont think its gonna fry your hardware.
But thats just my opinion.
I would take a fell several tests to see if a new psu is REAAAALY necessary.
PEACE!
All the protection in the world doesn't help when the rail spikes. His issue is likely that the PSU doesn't have a strong enough 5v rail for that many hard drives. Stress testing will likely never reveal an issue, but that doesn't mean his 5v rail is staying within spec. One nasty transient and he has no more data. Data recovery starts at $700 for one bad drive that needs more than an anti delete program. I would say a $120 for a power supply is well worth the piece of mind.
Thanks for that, I hadn't realised, I'll check my warranty status.
I looked them up because I was curious it would be worth the effort to RMA it in my opinion. At worst replace and sell the RMA.
Do you think it may be a bad SATA power connector? Try a new cable?
As for PSU brands I like Seasonic, Corsair, and EVGA.
Ha so Seasonic, Great wall and superflower?
