A new year, a new custom all-in-one liquid cooler from Swiftech. The H220 X2 Prestige looks to one-up the competition by not only offering exceptional performance but more customization options. The only question is whether you can you overlook its price.

The only thing I want to see the max OC charts with temps to have RPM or dBa in brackets besides or blend in another overlay graph in different color... so it would look more fair. Some of the systems could use a delta fan too thus being the top, despite sounding like jet engine. I suppose the max FPU AIDA tests ran on 100% so you have to switch forward and back a bit to get this info.

Seconds... yeah... NH-D15 still kind of... makes these things look like lacking the wow effect, especially for the given price...

Not to forget very long life thanks to Noctua's socket support. all the points you mentioned keep from going Aio route.

it does and i think the tiny performance edge only comes from running the fans faster.. basically there is no "wow" factor only in the fact its called water cooling..

i have read tons of cooler reviews.. they follow a pattern.. a slight cooling edge but fans at over 2000 rpm to get it..

All in one package with a minimum-sized radiator. That would only remained in these parts, because other fans and plastic fittings are used in the Swiftech H320 X2. There has been cracked plexi on the block leading to liquid leakage, therefore, carefully tightening! I recommend. Of course, also change of pump,if you wont to pimp up this sistem and the plastic fitting at the pump to replace for the larger , made of metal will be nice .
Everything together is still a very good cooling package with the option for upgrading .

As it stands each test as is is run for 15 minutes x 3 = 45 mins for Idle / Wprime / Aida / FPU so As it stands I am already spending 3 hours testing not counting photo work, writing, retesting, checking tim spread etc. Total time per review is around 10-12 hours these days. Adding more = not worth my time to do it. Literally i have better things to do lol.

Yes the D15 is a good air alternative but its still not friendly with tall ram when setup in its default configuration it also blocks the first expansion slot of the motherboard meaning in multi gpu systems or mini-ITX systems your SOL. Lets also keep in mind the 6700k even in my testing only hit about 111w at Peak load. thats it. So not really a heavy hitter in terms of power draw. Slap the H220x2 Prestige on say a high end x99 system and you have a different store. there is also the fact that the H220X2 can in fact be easily expanded with another radiator and a GPU block for a fully watercooled system should the end user wish to do so as the pump is in fact more than strong enough for that setup.

D15 is a great cooler but yeah not exactly as versatile. It all depends on the end user however.

The button at the bottom of page 8 says "Vale & Conclusion" instead of value.
Thanks fixed it.

Its one of those situations where if I had the extra time I would probably cover more angles.

Yeah thats the one thing people forget about big coolers for Mini-ITX or Micro ATX SLI / Xfire systems they tend to be a big fat no go. Standard ATX is not a problem.

But yeah as can be seen below. First mobo slot is blocked as the for NH-D15S last i checked its a single fan offset version meaning performance is actually less than the D15. Granted not by much unless using a high TDP processor which doesnt really exist in the LGA115x socket. Not to mention still hangs over the first motherboard expansion slot. As such not exactly mini-ITX friendly where as AIOs that tends to be a big selling point for them now.

I run a custom water loop built it to be like an AIO, black norprene hoses no resevoir just apogee drive II + radiator performs better than Most AIOs. with custom looks etc. But yeah. To be blunt Air cooling is better bang for buck and noise level. But this is a $190 liquid cooler its not ment for the person looking at a $50-70 heatsink. Sometimes we all forget that certain products might seem off putting or insane are just not targeted at that individual.

As they say "different strokes different folks"

Great review as usual.
Off topic, but will the d15 s mount turned 90 degrees so it wont block the first slot, or is the mount set one angle only?

Ah my bad yeah the D15S is offset forgot they did that (brain fart) the above image is from my D15 review. Eitherway to get D15 performance on a D15S requires a second fan which brings the memory issue back into the equation. No option is perfect is essentially what i am saying. Even then D15S + mini ITX ASUS mobo = problems due to the daughter board etc. So theres lots of pitfalls depending on which direction you go aka no perfect answer for everything single system.

This revision somehow looks a lot more appealing than the original, perhaps it's the redesigned reservoir section. It's definitely pricey, but I think it's main competitors should be starter WC kits, as opposed to AIOs. It's insanely good value considering that you could have a full almost-custom loop for around $300(this + gpu block and some fittings/tubes), while previously a setup with this level of components would cost around $500++. I plan to be doing that with my zen/pascal/greenland build later this year.

Also, a comment on the benchmarked graphs: imo the fan noise vs PWM%, and fan speed vs PWM% graphs are quite useless. Sure, you could do some inference and extrapolation for something useful, but what we really want is the fan noise vs delta temperature(or an alternative metric of cooling performance).

Anyone has used water cooling, at least as good as this one will never switch on the air pipe coolers. NH D15S can hide in preformens results. To the wise purchase is to buy liquid cooling. For decades I cooled with liquid and easily exceeded the 25% + better results at the expense of stable OC.

Well I dug through many reviews before and actually they perform very same dual vs single fan, as D15S has more aggressive and wider RPM ramp, lower min and a bit higher max. Haven't seen benched them face to face with dual setup. I believe due to case airflow specifics they could be very random results due the alignment difference, despite they are very similar. I driver mine with Vardar ER at front Thermalright TY-147A in the middle. Bothe very wide RPM range and... they are not brown :D, Imagine... I threw in the closet a 20$+ stock fan just because it is brown :D

And replacing both fans means as an air cooler it cost what $80-90 + 20 + 20 so $140-150 for an air cooler.

D15S and D15 are close but on say X79 the D15 by default has an edge of around 3'C in overclocked situations.

Basically 1 fan vs 2 fan the regular D15 for the same price is a better performer while the D15S is a better balanced option,

Still $140-150 for a customized D15S is the realm of water cooling. Which when done right can be as quiet or quieter. The biggest issue today is the low TDP of mainstream processors means they dont really need ultra high end cooling. that is pretty much the realm of X99 now,

$80-90 + 20 + 20 so $140-150

Funny math :D

Yeah... I have a feeling the new Broadwell-E will be like hot pancakes when under OC, just as the desktop parts, let's hope not really.

Well depending on location... Shipping / Taxes etc. So would be around $140-150 but yeah.

All the E series chips have much higher TDPs 125 vs say 65-77up to 95 on mainstream chips the fact my 6700k only hits 110w MAX thats not avg load thats a 91w TDP. So double the cores lower the clock speed you get 125 20-40w increase for an avg OC would put it around 145-165. Pushing heavy overclock yeah probably 180w or so. At which point high end coolers tend to create a bigger gap with their cheaper siblings.

Imagine the delta on say a 9590 at 220w TDP lol.

Many things can influence results as well..

Thermal material used
Platform
Individual CPU (especially with mainstream Intel CPUs)
base TDP
Overclocked TDP
Voltage used.
IGP vs no IGP
Motherboard Mosfets and VRM give off heat. depending on the design and proximity heatpipes can actually absorb some of the heat that is given off (NH-C14 actually specifies during installation to avoid having heatpipes near the motherboard heatsinks)

Etc etc so much can influence results. So kinda have to take them all with a grain of salt.

9590 at 220w TDP lol.

LoL AMD stones are a different story :D

For example at my place NH-D15 costs 90€, D15s 80€, Vardar and TY147 costs each 15€, so I got a 110€ cooling setup... all final prices with taxes... so a bit too much as usually your prices in $ are equal to our in €. For example plain EK Predator 240 (Without the splitter for GPU block), costs 217€ at the cheapest place. Corsair H80i GT Costs 97€, So a bit too much for the price, there must be a cheaper supplier.

But we cannot blame Noctua... They are simply the best and therefor they cost so much, not for the fashion useless bling like CM V8 lol, but performance...
