Hey,

I just came back from a weekend away to find out my graphics card seems to be totally screwed, assuming a flatmate has done something but need someone to take a look and tell me how bad it is and how much it would cost to get it fixed!

Appreciated

Specs -

Intel Core i7 - 4770K
EVGA GTX 770

Looks like bad video RAM from experience, am guessing the warranty period is over?

You could try and underclock the vRAM see if that removes the artifacts, other than that if it is the vRAM theres not much you can do!

I am fairly sure its past sadly, had it since Sep 27, 2013. Is the video ram a issue that in theory be fixed? I thought maybe it was water damage to GPU. Hope I am wrong.

IF it is your vRAM then unless you physically remove the offending chip/s then no. But like I said underclocking can in some cases get rid of the artifacts make your GPU usable.. some cases.

Info is deeply appreciated, being forced to run on a GTX 460 as a replacement and its brutal :)

Will stick it back in and underclock the Vram. Do you have any preferred programs for this? I'm no pro underclocker ^^

Appreciated!

Well the vRAM is my guess like I said just from personal experience, maybe someone else will chime in with something else? I don't tend to OC my GPU's though anything like MSI afterburner should enable you to do this.... however I've just had a thought, all modern GPU's automatically downclock based on usage so it's likely your vRAM while at the desktop was running fairly slow clocks anyway, may well be time for a new GPU, I'd trouble shoot some more just to be sure it definitely is the issue and not something else just to be certain

What is your powersupply make, model, rating? Does this happen every time you boot? By the way try to reseat that GPU in the slot and check connections too. If the GPU is overclocked, down clock it to stock, heck even try to reapply the heatsink with fresh thermal compound for GPU and Ram chips

Might try "baking" as a last ditch, otherwise it's a goner I think.

Its a gonner. Unless you are happy to source new ram chips and solder them on yourself. This card is doomed. Artifacting like that on the desktop tends to mean that one/some or all of the ram onboard has become corrupted. No amount of baking or downclocking will save it or bring it back to life.

Toss it in the trash an grab a GTX960 which offers the same performance. If you fancy an upgrade though then a 970 is also good as prices have dropped significantly recently

Any chance you have a guide for that stuff? Never opend a GFX card before.

Appreciate the advice my friend but sadly I have a son to provide for as it is, £250 is simply not a option =/ I either find a way to fix the 770 or i'm stuck with a 460.

I have a EVGA 1000W PSU - It happens directly from start up including artifacts on bios boot up.

Not too back, Cracking King is the British prime minister , David Camareron.

/b/ Is just a good place to show off how good and bad human nature is when un-supervised :)

The screenshot I provided is a picture of screen with the 770 in it but the screenshot is just a 2x display shot with the PHOTO of the damaged 770.

Is the corruption only on your second screen?
Negative, When I boot the 770, I only get one display, the DVI - HDMI seem to refuse to work.

I guess that 770 has done it's job and it's retired.
Maybe gaming won't do on it but downclocking it both core and vram may make it more stable.
Also can you post screenshot from Aida or Everest ( hardware and software info programs) so we can see the temperatures on the card?
Chances are GPU runs hot due to lack of airflow or thermal paste drying off, and that did the damage to the card.
Normally GFXes go to top 65C to 70C I on load while Radeon can achieve higher temps without damage.
My 6770 budget primary card in CFX is 2 years old and hits 85C to 90C on load, playing all sorts of heavy games.
But my 2 cards had repaste a week ago and my case has good airflow with 4 fans.

Sadly it seems the card is dead then, is there anyway I can sell some of the parts to get some money for maybe at least another 460 for SLI as this card can barely run WoT / WoWS or CS:GO without a little issues here and there.

Or if any of you guys know a good place to keep my eye on second hand cards? Although I do strongly dislike buying second hand cards, bad experiences in the past.

Just also wanted to thank every single person that posted a reply, its honestly appreciated.

If any of you are gamer's and would like a community to talk to and play, please drop me a message.

What? You already replied to that post months ago. You leaked that info in the screenshot you posted ... I didn't trace your IP or hack your security, lol ... but you did shoot yourself in the foot, look at your browser's bookmark toolbar, and your profile name in the upper right ... no worries, hehheh.

Nobody "hacked" you. Your IP adddress has remained the same until your last two posts, so whomever posted those replies did so from your own PC.

Either you're lying for some undiscernable reason, or you got "pwned" by your momflatmate after leaving yourself logged in.

I suggest if the Op does not believe it was him that quoted Xorbe at post 14 on December the 7th he take his angst to PM's, for the record though, I can say with complete confidence that every post of his in this thread has consistent IP info, there are no IP address anomalies associated with any of them...... on that note the thread is closed.

Talzanar, if you're not a newbie troll or having a lapse of memory, then -- someone has probably been at your PC and used it while you weren't there. Whatever happened, it has nothing to do with me. I hope you get it sorted out. Check your other forums and see if you have any other posts you didn't make, or emails in your sent folder, etc. You only have 10 posts here, so I'm not going to continue further on this thread, understandably.
