Is anyone still rocking Windows Vista?

I'm curious to know if anyone is still running Vista for any reason nine years after it was released.

I know a lot of people hated it and it had some real problems in the beginning, but it did eventually come good with the service packs, although the reputational damage had been done.

Its best feature for me was the look of it (the skin) which I think is the nicest ever from Microsoft, with W7 being a more muted, less "wow factor" version of it, so I miss Vista's look.

Still on W7 for now, but will make the inevitable move to W10 sooner rather than later.

I have two systems (laptop and desktop) that still have Vista. Reason: they're good enough for internet access and not worth spending $100 on to upgrade to Windows 10.

Still have Vista on the kid's computer. They use it for light gaming and they can access the internet - though most everything online is locked out except for sites I approve. No need to spend money on something that's already working.

My 25k Z67 runs on Vista without any issue's in fact had less problems with that than Win7 or 10. How ever need to change it to win7 \ win10 due to Divinity enhanced having the new requirement.

I miss Windows 95. Microsoft sure knew how to hype an O/S back then.

Vista... I used it a week and after that became a staunch supporter of reverting everyone's machines back to XP.

I tried Vista for around a month and then did a clean install of W7, Vista was definitely slower, but still pretty good.

"Friends huh " had to sort out a sony laptop with Vista for a friend
It had Vista installed from New ( maxed out with 2gig ram )
Friend said Please sort it out it runs like So Slow ( me being polite )
So i booted it up
backed up her important files
Reformated and installed XP pro ( win 7 was still in the future )
restored her files
installed programs she used or XP equivelents
Gave it back to her
She threw a blue fit " Thats not Vista" Sony says its not backwards compatible. with XP ( no Drivers )
i said try it if you think its worse i will restore it to Vista
30 min of use later She said "" its Faster and better THANK YOU""

Same hardware now runs win 7 ok with reasonable performance ( and still better than VISTA )

I do have a machine with Vista but not exactly Vista. It's an old machine (P4) with Windows Server 2008 SP2, technically it has a core similar to Vista.
Pretty solid system.

I still run an older laptop and an older desktop at my parents' place on Vista Home Premium. I have the licenses already and unlike XP it is still getting security updates. It is good enough of an OS to run everything I need it to run and to be honest I never understood the hate for it. No need to dish out $$$ for a newer OS.

I had vista on a c2d system with an e7200 OC'd to 3.6GHz, 4GB ram and HD4870 graphics card, it could run all games pretty decent at that time

I was lucky enough to get into MS tester program for Vista, which ran for almost a year prior to its release (who doesn't like free windows for a year).
During that time I ran multi-boot XP/Vista/Mandriva, but in 2007 I killed XP and was using Vista exclusively. Even upgraded my brother and stepdad.
Unlike many, who claimed that Vista was the worst OS ever, I think it was a huge leap forward.
Up until Win7 arrival I only had a few BSODs due to over-overclocking or hardware failure. Can't remember a single time when computer crashed or hung on its own.
The only exception was a driver crash and boot problems with Novint Falcon, but that was definitely a driver problem, not the OS.

At the time, I really loved Vista. Had barely any issues with it after SP1, ran like a dream. However, since then I seem to have nothing but problems with it. I've run it on several different systems, and it seems like they always have the same issues. The OS being pretty laggy at times, and Explorer liking to stop responding when I'm copying/moving files around. Never used to happen back in the day, and I used it on much slower systems back then. Very weird.

With SP2 it's as usable as Win7, almost all that negative crap about Vista back then was because it was slow, and it was slow because people used it on crappy hardware (1-core with 1GB RAM or similar). When Win7 came out, my PC back then (E6400 @ 3.2GHz, 4GB RAM, HD3870X2) ran all XP, Vista and 7 with similar performance. I just used 7 because it was newest, and was the only 64-bit OS which I had, allowing full 4GB to be used. Later upgraded to 8GB.

But still when I was with my ex, I built her a cheap gaming PC for Sims 3, which I installed Vista x64 SP2 just testing in mind, ran everything absolutely perfectly. i3-530, 4GB, HD3870 etc.

I don't have Vista installed on either of my rigs but I do still have a retail copy of Vista Ultimate that I bought and installed in 2007. I used it for a while and then reinstalled XP.

Vista was what cemented MS reputation for their tick-tock OS release of good OS-not so good OS but in MS case it might be better described as a tick-turd release. I remember the tech sites flooded with scorn for Vista and people bitching about it being a resource hog. It didn't help Vista's fate that hardware manufacturers were slow to release Vista compatible drivers and some PC manufacturers were putting 512 MB in their PCs which was fine for XP but not enough for Vista.

The only time I used Vista for real was the short months at MS tech support, otherwise I haven't really used it. Was on XP quite long, then spent some time on Linux, then Windows 7.
