Hey guys I need some help making my pc quieter when under load. At idle it's pretty much silent. I have 2x Intake @ 1100 rpm and 2x exhaust @ 950 rpm (under load). The 2 intake which are the stock fans even at 1100 rpm, doesn't move too much air. The 2 exhaust move a lot more air at lower speeds. Don't get me started about the stock Intel cooler while rendering.. My poor gpu gets up to 80 c under full load @ stock speeds with 50% fan speed.. I sit about 2 and a half feet away from my pc. Under a full gaming load it gets pretty loud, and it drives me nuts! Plus I can't even oc my gpu I think 80 c is hot enough.. Anyways here's a link to my build http://pcpartpicker.com/p/JRVFcf
Make any suggestions you'd like to help make it quieter!!

If so, there's nothing you can do. Nvidia's blowers are shit.

Just get any capable cooler (something like a 212 EVO or U12S or TC12DX) or any watercooler ever and you'll solve the CPU problem. It's a Haswell part so obviously it's hot on stock cooler.

Buy a H80i from Corsair if your case can manage. Very decent and quiet AiO cooler.

This is the gpu got it for a steal $300 shipped, I'm not sure if it just runs hot or my case has bad air flow.

Seeing as they are Corsair stock fans, they might not be too capable of pulling air through the mesh. Also, one of the intake fans (assuming they're both in front) will have a hard time pushing air through the drive cage if you use 3.5" drives.

80 degrees seems roughly right according to some reviews. If you have better fans and a better CPU cooler you might be able to bring it under 80. This review said that if you up the fan profile and speed them up, you can get below 70.

I don't think the liquid AIO hassle is worth it. The E3-1231 V3 can't go anywhere past stock. It's just that the stock cooler struggles; it's not too hot of a CPU.

If you had asked before you purchased these parts, I would have said:
  • A MSI Gaming or ASUS Strix GPU would be much quieter, for $20-30 more. (after rebates)
  • The T230 is a nice case, but a Fractal Design Define R4 or R5 would be much quieter.
  • The CRYORIG H7 would be the best bang for the buck.
  • The EVGA 500B is not known for being quiet.
What to do?
  • The H7 is almost a no brainer, but are you sure that your noise is coming from the CPU?
  • The case that comes to mind to address both heat and noise is the (expensive) Corsair Carbide 600Q (the 600C has similar features, but with a window which would not be as quiet)
  • BUT, those will not help if the PSU is noisy under load. I've used the EVGA GS-550 and it's very quiet.

I know i need a new cpu cooler but can't decide on a aio or a Noctua NH-U14S. I've read the H80i stock fans are loud?
Either way they both have fans, and the Noctua are by far the better quality, no danger of leaks and quieter.

Keep it simple and cheap, and buy a Gelid Tranquillo Rev 2 (3?) for your CPU. Low RPM
optimized fan and great tower air cooler at a very good price point. More silent than CM's offerings at 20-25 bucks and more than enough for a mild OC even.

I really like the Gelid case fans too, not overpriced, low RPM optimized and they move significant amounts of air and are simply inaudible. At full throttle all you get is a very distant low hum, same with the CPU cooler fan.

Case: Fractal Design R4 or newer, still offers a very silent tower with good (not optimal like a HAF case) airflow and cooling options. She won't give you the lowest temps, but for that few degrees C that you may lose, you get silence. In my current build the one thing that is noisy still, is the HDD vibrating in the case. Up to the point that it becomes annoying - I consider that a luxury problem :p

Another very likely culprit after you have decent CPU/GPU cooling and low RPM case fans, is the PSU. It can easily be the noiser part in a system at load and it can even drown out that GPU blower. When I switched out dual GTX 660 (blower/ref cooler like yours) for a single TwinFrozR 770, I lost the GPU noise, but discovered that the actual noisiest part was PSU :)

Note that you can spend anywhere from 20 bucks to 2k on cooling solutions, but the actual differences are minimal at best until you venture into the realm of custom water loops, which takes a bit more effort and research. I would stay clear of AIO, it doesn't offer enough versus good silent-optimized air cooling to be worth the potential hassle and shorter life span + higher cost. Also, you will always hear a pump, while a low RPM fan is far less noisy. Basically all an AIO does for 'silence' is that you get an additional sound source at a different frequency from the pump, because you still want fans on your rads anyway :)

Depends on how much you plan to change and pay, If you plan to change case then something like the bquiet i got is dead silent or fractals r5 and many more.
The main thing you want to change is the cpu cooler, im not familiar with your CPU but i think a cheap tower noctua or something like the raijintek themis will suffice.
The main problem in my opinion as it seems is your case airflow, so either you change the fans, there are many fans to do the job
the bequiets ones seem reasonable priced and good performing best are the noctua i thing but at a premium, or maybe put more fans or change the case.
