Can you hold out 5 months for AMD arctic islands and nvidia pascal? you'll be paying more but price to performance will be much better than what's currently available. Also would last you a lot longer.

That's what I am doing, while just playing old games that I missed on integrated graphics in the meantime.

Why do you believe price to performance will be a lot better? Usually the opposite is true right after introduction. I see zero reason to wait for anything except Thanksgiving week, because that is when the best deals happen.

Well I'm not looking to spend more then need be. I could get the 370 for $195 once it comes back into stock but I do think it may just be a bit too large for my case and not sure on the power requirement and whether it would strain my psu. I'm not an avid pc gamer, but don't mind playing something occasionally. I've heard evga do better nvidia cards and sapphire do better amd ones but does it matter? I'm definitely considering the 750Ti, is it worth going the oc one? (P.s) Thankyou for all the recommendations so far everyone.

????
370s are far from being a large card fitting in m-itx cases. and if your system specs are up to date; that antec 550 will definitely handle one with room to spare having a i5 on a B-75 board w/fans, ram, HDs, SSDs and what not. (microwave/toaster oven not included)

Yep, no PSU strain. Don't think it would draw more than 110W max. The downside is higher power consumption ($) even at idle, which can more than exceed any cost savings you thought you were getting.

yeah, its pretty mind boggling how better performing gpus usually use more power.

Alright well I can see all of the many opinions but I'm going to put it simpler. I can get a sapphire R7 360 nitro for $155. Or I can purchase an Asus 750Ti 2gb for $179 but is the extra $24 worth it? Then again I could also purchase the Sapphire R7 370 dual x for $195 but then again, is the extra $16-40 worth it? Will it be anything noticeable between the 3 cards and the price difference. I'm not going to be buying the gpu for another few weeks anyway so there is no deadline. I'm just getting an idea on what's around for value.

Something to think on to say the least with the options but I believe it has been narrowed down. CPU seems to be doing the trick for now though so I could wait.

Then keep using integrated. No use for a card? Then do not bother.

Why not a cheap sh 280/x or 270/x

A R7 370 will be good to find at good price, way better than 750ti

960 pick against 950

He does not need one so why bother? Overkill is overkill. Plus, a lot of e-bay sellers sell them at like 80-110% the market value. A used 750TI costs easily €100.

If integrated works it is certainly not worth it. Especially not at those prices.

I checked recently and no, not really. Not for his use situation anyway.

The FPS/$ might be a little better on the AMD cards, but their isn't a lot in it. They are in the correct order anyway. If you aren't in a hurry, keep your eyes open for a sale.

Mid-range card between 200-300 USD with ddr5x could be a good value point. seems like he's not doing anything demanding on the gpu based on the fact he was already using a 7750, so a 750ti would be a good upgrade in this case. I'd always consider going outside of budget to get something that will last longer and provide a much better experience, in which case waiting for the new lines of gpus would be worthwhile.

If you see any gaming in the future I'd go with the r7 370. If not, don't get a card or try to get a used one. Make a WTB post in the trade forum here or something.

Alright well I've been looking at all the comments and have been thinking about it.
They are in the correct order anyway. If you aren't in a hurry, keep your eyes open for a sale.
You're right, I am in no rush to buy a card and my cpus integrated seems to be going well enough for what I'm doing. Was only thinking as I thought it might strain the cpu but not the case.
that will last longer and provide a much better experience, in which case waiting for the new lines of gpus would be worthwhile.
And that's exactly what I'll be looking for eventually maybe a decent sale in so many months time, something reliable and that won't need to upgrade until it too eventually goes again. Any idea on what these new gpus are? Nvidias new line? I do appreciate all the tips everyone by the way.

It'll be a long time until the new line trickles down to the entry level/low end niches. First up are the high end GPU's.

Are you sure? Nvidia didn't do that with Maxwell. The GTX 750 was first. I'd guess it was because they could readily use that chip in laptops where high efficiency is most important.

But anyway, the new generation is never a low price right after it's introduced. Maybe the *old* generation gets cheaper...

Of the two options, I would go with the GTX 750ti as its the superior performance card when comparing it to the R7 360.

I think yes, and yes both are worth while, but 750ti does hit a sweet spot simply because its early Maxwell (better tesselation etc, good for newer games) and at a very nice price/perf price bracket. If you can stretch to 280x that would be a huge step up and would set you straight for 1080p at very decent settings, and if you intend to keep it for a long time I think it will also fare slightly better in DX12 and the additional VRAM will serve it well. At that, the 750ti will struggle - consider High versus medium settings for a very broad comparison.

Current rumor is four gpus for nvidia. 4k wasn't a factor when Maxwell came out but it is now and I am wondering how that changes things. They'll have to offer the flagship as a one card solution for 4k, but will need something for 1080p, which is still majority of the market. A 970 at $300 can already handle everything at 1080p so I see that as the pricing ceiling for a 1080p card. Perhaps there will be a mid-level option priced between 200-250 USD and what this could bring to the table with new architecture and gddr5x is interesting.

At the very least AMD cards will become a more viable option because the power consumption is coming way down.

I'm willing to play the patience card.

As said I may just wait for the 'old' generation of cards to come down in price and to also see what is available in the months to come. My integrated is fine for now. 750Ti would be the one I'd get if I bought one now but there's no rush.
If you can stretch to 280x that would be a huge step up
As for that card, well it is definitely out of the question considering the power it draws which would more than strain my 550w and the length.
I guess we'll just see how things go this year as once I buy a card, I do intend on keeping it for a long time until it of course becomes a corpse card ;D.

That's what they have now for Maxwell. 750-Titan is four processors. The 750s are the oldest but they won't necessarily be replaced first. I think they will though if Pascal has a big FPS/W improvement. Especially if AMD produces GPUs that are efficient enough for laptops.

Can you hold out 5 months for AMD arctic islands and nvidia pascal? you'll be paying more but price to performance will be much better than what's currently available. Also would last you a lot longer.

That's what I am doing, while just playing old games that I missed on integrated graphics in the meantime.

OP "GPU recently died"
you "can you hold out 5 months?"

Idk about you but for me 5 days has me in withdrawals. In 5 months I might just find myself in the kind of mischief that can't be undone.

perhaps a bit more sensitivity to others in your posts? Not a ton, just a bit.

For under $200 USD you can get the MSI Radeon R9 380 OC 2GB Armor2x

I got one for free a few months ago when I RMA'd a R9 270x with a bad fan.

it's a step down from the 290x... basically an OCed R9 285 but it may do until you can get better
