Sapphire to Launch New HD 2600 XT ULTIMATE Edition Graphics Solution

Sapphire Technology has just announced that in addition to the new HD 2600 and HD 2400 series of graphics accelerators scheduled for release in July, the range will include the new completely passively cooled SAPPHIRE HD 2600 XT ULTIMATE Edition. The SAPPHIRE HD 2600 XT ULTIMATE Edition features the latest unified shader architecture with 24 shader pipelines, core clocks of 800MHz, a 128-bit memory bus and high speed GDDR3 memory clocked at 1.4GHz. Sapphire offers the HD 2600 XT Ultimate Edition in two memory sizes, 256MB and 512MB. Other family members include the SAPPHIRE HD 2600 PRO with a similar architecture, but using 256 or 512MB of GDDR2 memory. Also available are the SAPPHIRE HD 2400 XT and SAPPHIRE HD 2400 PRO, cost effective solutions with 8 unified shader pipelines and a 64-bit memory interface using GDDR3 and GDDR2 memory respectively. Sapphire is already shipping its new flagship model the SAPPHIRE HD 2900 XT. Other products in the family are scheduled for delivery in July.

And to think we were disappointed in the 8600GTS, I will be intersteded to see how this card compares but it will be too late for me, I am having 2 8600GTS for SLi for me Birthday, they can be got cheap now in the UK for less than the price of a 7900GS if you know where to shop.

Even the 2900 only uses GDDR3 at the moment (if they release the XTX that should be GDDR4) so I wouldn't expect these to have anything more than GDDR3.

Yeah, but the specs say that the 2600xt is allowed to use gDDR4 and I would think that "ultimate" would have the card maxed out. Seems kinda weird, unless they release a HD 2600 xt Uber edition... :rockout:

If these people would release the 2400 and 2600 this month, I think ATI would see a very nice comeback in profits. Zero extra power connectors for possible 8600-raping performance? Hard to argue with that, unless you're an NVIDIA fanboy xD.

Well, I guess the AIB partners are getting them out as fast as they can. Still, ATI has enough to battle Nvidia's recent onslaught of midrange and lowrange cards and Im willing to bet they will perform nicely and probably be better than them. Remember, being late to the party, doesnt necessarily mean they are gonna lose. It means that these should be sweet cards and work very nicely. Honestly, you folks need to get off this launch date blues.

Why? I am a bit lost, does the 2900XT not have more stream processors than the 8800 GTS and it does not even kick the 8800GTS's 640MB ass. I seem to recall it's not just about how many but also the speed they work and thats where the 8800's stength seems to be. I do think however that on paper at least the 2600XT should be more than a match for the 8600GTS but I think where ATi may be stronger is in DX10, well hopefully so, competition is good!

I don't think AC uses heatpipes. Either way I don't think that the quality of HIS coolers are all that great. Good design though.

That card does looks smaller, perhaps quiet since it has heat riser tubes, may be a really good mid-range card.

Correct, AC's 'DHES' series coolers don't use heatpipes.

even tho there maybe some despute over the quality of DHES type coolers. even tho ATi (& some Nvidia 7900GS series cards) did run with a stock cooler of very very similar design. reviews & also others would always say that HiS's stock coolers were always better & more quiet then the coolers on other brands....

ontop of that Ive never heard anybody complain about the quality, reliablility or the effectiveness of the HiS DHES coolers. on the other hand where ATi & Nvidia sits I hear a lot of complaints made daily about their stock coolers. mainly complaints about it sounding like a helicopter assualt when the pc is booted up or when gaming.

this is a complete unbias post. Ive runa plethora of cards from many manufacturers all execpt for HiS which is a bit of a pain to get hold of where I live.

I run a GeCube x1800XT with an A.C X2 cooler. Ive run sapphires, 3d Prophets, PowerColour but even if i aint tried it first time. HiS always seems to get my vote. they just look much better in general also. my personal opinion anyway.
