So, say you built your new custom computer, what steps do you use after all the components are in? What do you do from their?

Do you mean on mounting it or just software talking?

if your on about sofeware it has to be os first(but if hd already as one then i format first then os). but if your on about hardware the only thing i suggest is making sure you have good air flow and trying to make the cables as neat as possible:D

Double check that everything is seated correctly, and that all wires are on. Then set the CMOS jumper to clear, boot, shutdown. Set the jumper back, then boot, load BIOS, make sure everything looks ok, set all the appropriate settings, reboot, and if all is good, start to load the O/S.

Once I get my O/S loaded, I do drivers, then set things such as paging file, performance settings/visuals, and what not to how I like it. Then load a antivirus, connect to the net and update antivirus / Windows (usually don't update Windows because my XP disk has SP2/other tweaks on it, and most of the updates are useless imo), then load the rest of whatever.

That works great for me.

I don't think so either, but his question is odd, he's looking for something specific I think!!:rockout:

I don't think you want to "BOOT" the computer with the CMOS Jumper in the "CLEAR" position; that usually kills the MOBO!!:toast:

How? It's called clearing the CMOS... You set the jumper to clear and press the power button. Guess I killed a lot of motherboards then.

Most mobos manuls I have read just say to set it to clear position and move it back. Applying the power with the jumper in clear position will kill most newer mobo's.(the battery polarity is reversed in the clear position resetting the cmos).:toast:

Not clearing CMOS...Booting with jumper in "clear CMOS" position.

Plug power cord into wall socket.

Hahaha, the most important thing ever xD

If you meaning software
  • Install Windows
  • Install Utilities (Winamp, WMP, Nero, System optimizers)
  • Install Games
  • Tweak Registery
  • Run Boot Optimizer
  • Optimize boot
  • Play and listen music
  • Look for the temps:
If temps are good, continue playing and listening music.
If temps are high, Look for a way to improve cooling:
If temps lowered, Load my game and playlist... Ya'll know what I'll do :p
If temps don't lower, Remove heatsink, re-apply T-paste, clean the heatsink, mount it, look if it is well secured... Turn on the system, play and listen music:
If temps dropped, continue playing and listening music.
If they not, buy another heatsink.
  • Overclock (optional)
  • Show off (VERY important)

To boot with the jumper setting on "CLRCMOS" on, is not the most recomendable thing dude :ohwell: At least it wasn't before...

The remaining things looks good, and I forgot to specify them, I've also not posted about internet xD

I've had my boards not even clear unless I've powered them on. Anyhow, that's the steps I do when setting a new system up. I "clear" the CMOS before I do anything else... How you clear it is up to you.

My teacher told me that turning on a pc with the jumper on clear it's not good, you can blow the mobo and/or the BIOS out...
Plus you have to wait just 5 mins to clear the CMOS... It could be worst
