x1950 Pro or 7900GS?

The thing that is funny about that 4 512mb sticks of hyperx, is if you are using nForce4, its finicky with them 4 slots being filled. It didnt allow me to OC well at all on my old 939 board, and I couldnt get past 220mhz on fsb messing with all sorts of settings. So good luck with those 4 sticks

You cannot compare a 7600gt to a 8600gts a 8600gts is twice the power and has much better image quality and also a 8600gts is much faster than a gt. Look at my scores and tell me your card comes close to that. The 8600gts compare more to a x1950xt x1900xt or a 7900gt, 7800gtx 256 that would be overclocked.

An 8600GTS is certainly better than a 7600GT. What's strange about it is the fact that it does much better in 3dmark06 than cards that actually outperform it in games a lot of the time.

Dude tr, I'm not comparing a 7600 to an 8600, I'm comparing a x1950 to an 8600, Please read closer. And war eagle, think you could elaborate on the RAM, Ive noticed that my board is picky about the RAM, but I would like to know why different DIMMS will change, I mean its simple as they just are different, but I wanna know why

Hey guys....dont get too over excited, I recommended the 1950Pro as he is not overclocking but dont be damaging of the 7900GS....even at stock it can take the 1950Pro to the cleaners in some benches and certainly does not get "owned" overall, there is little in it, As I posted before:

Did you read the review? It's an OK card and bottom line is that in many benches it does beat the 1950Pro at stock...when you do start overclocking...well generally overall it wins because more often than not they overclock better than the 1950Pro.

having said that, I still beleive the 1950Pro is the better card, better IQ etc etc plus simultanous HDR/AA and I would get it over the GS....better technology also, the 7900 series is looking dated now, I only really rate the GTO/GTX but I remind you, when I got my GTO it was at the time of the 1950Pro's launch and I paid the same price and I would have effectively a GTX over a 1950pro anytime...before I am being accused of being a fanboi, I had better mention that before the GTO my cards were an 1800XT and a 850XT PE!!!

Can you stretch to a 512MB version? That would do you better, especially for Oblivion with max settings and loads of AA/AF/HDR.

I have a palit 7900gs 512 and it does fine when oc'ed at stock its a slug, but the 1950 pro beats it but not by much in benchies imho , i am being lured by a 1950 xt 512 myself ,

They only outperform 8600gts at very high resolution, in the same resolutions as the benchmarks ( moderate to high) this card hammers so they are accurate. It's not the ,128 bit interface that slows it down, it's the lower amount of ram because when you SLI two 8600gts at really high resolution it almost ties a 8800gts 640. More ram lessens the gap. When these cards are 512 mb and they will be look out. This is a super good midrange card, x1950xts were higher end, for 168.00 these are unreal cards. It was ment to replace a 7600gt, 7900gs 256, or 7900gt 256 and it does. They didn't put 512mb on it and why do you think that was? if they did it would have been better bang for the buck than a 8800gts 320 mb, it wouldn't be as fast but it would score in the 8000+ to 9000+ range. When I ran mine in SLI, like a retard, I ran it in single gpu mode DOH!!!!! so it was more like running a single card with 512 mb of ram. I have never owned a SLI rig and didn't know to set it to alternating mode.

Well, looking at the reviews, stock for stock, it's pretty much even with an X1950PRO at lower resolutions and loses at higher resolutions. However, it still manages to score higher in 3dmark05 and 06 than an x1950PRO at their respective default resolutions. However, the 8600 does overclock better than an x1950PRO.

Must...not...attack...Bush...with...vast...knowledge...of...his...stupidity. I have a political science degree specializing mostly in him. ANYWAY. I had a choice between an x1950PRO and a 7900GS for my AM2 rig that I'm using right now, and I picked the X1950PRO, if that helps at all.
