Again I ask----what cooler?

So, from the mutual agreement between me and a few members of the forum, i have decided to sell my current cooler, See here\ and get a nicer/better cooler.

Thermal Right Ultra 120 extreme
Zalman 9700

Fan i will use

Please keep in mind that this is going on a pentium d 945, i do plan to overclock, that the reason for a new cooler, So has to be more for the D series than the c2d

so pick on i chose or you pick, I was thinking about $65 wich is enough to get the ultra xtrm, i do have a 120mm fan already also! so let thoughts of creative imagination flow!

Thermalright... hands down.

I do not have personal experiance with it... so take my advice worth that.

But from everything I have seen, it beats out everything else

I have the regular Ultra-120 on my Pentium D 805 right now and it does the job very nicely even with running a rather large voltage through it. Under 100% load after 24 hours it hits 70C, which is actually damn good for a 90nm Pentium D with 1.5v running through it. I am also using a very similar Antec 79CFM fan to what you are looking to use.

I do have the Ultra-120 Extreme sitting next to me, but I am waiting for the funding to finish the rest of my new machine before using it.

There are down sides to the cooler though. The base is very poorly machined. Lapping is pretty much a must, I didn't lap my regular Ultra-120 before mounting it and I really am wishing I did. I am sure it could keep temps below 70C under full load if I had lapped it.

70c is HOTTT,

I do plan to lap it if i get that one, i just don't want to drop $70 on a cooler and it only give me a few c drop.

you should also consider the Scythe Infinity... received it yesterday, and my load temps dropped from +55°C to 45°C (orthos running for 3h). great cooler + totally inaudible, just make sure it does fit into your case (that thing REALLY is a behemoth).

The ice age cooler I believe performs like a Scythe similar to its look, but it has the copper pipes drirectly connected to the cpu area (lol, cpu area, Im ill today so no work

). if it didnt have those little cracks between the pipes than it would perform even better and maybe be as good as the ultra extreme.

The Thermalright is already pretty price. I would lay down the extra cash for the Titan or a MACS. I'm considering to buy one myself to. :banghead:

Indeed, 70C is hot, but under normal use a processor will never see 100% utilization for 24 hours straight, I just did it to test stability. 70C is certainly a lot better than the 78C I was getting with the stock cooler at stock voltages at stock speeds.:shadedshu

That's impressive.
I thought that i read somewhere that the Titan and the MACS were pretty similar.
But either way they are both very good coolers. But also pretty expensive.
On the other hand a basic watercooling kit is about the same price. And mostly they do not perform very well.
