Well, if any of you have been following the 680i of satan you know that I have had nothing but problems with this build. It was working last with the old power supply and a PCI GPU. Well I got my new power supply, an FSP group 700w, and my 8800GTS 320 back in. So I plugged them both in, and it won't post. It starts up for a split second. The fans start to spin and the LEDs turn on, but everything turns back off after less than a second. I have unhooked everything including the ram and it does the same thing. I am thinking about setting the thing on fire. Anyone have any idea what is going on? I'm starting to think the motherboard died AGAIN. This would be the fifth time I think. I cleared the CMOS 3 times already by the way and checked all connections a dozen times.

Yea it sucks when that crap happens.

Does your motherboard have a PC speaker? You could have a dead stick of memory try one stick at a time.

Your MoBo has soooooo many options with such small incrimental changes possible. It's got to be a BIOS setup thing. Try going back to basics, start with just the CPU and 1 stick ram and low grade GPU. Get that going and go from there. Then add I thing at a time making Bios changes as you go until you get it all in runnung. Then optimize that beast for performance and OC the piss out of it. Start out slow and check the manual (must be thick eh, or what 3 dvd's LOL) as you go to check its OK. I would hate to be in your shoes, That totally sucks to have to RMA so many of them damn things!!

It does the same thing with any stick of ram I put in there or no ram at all. Yes, it has a built in speaker but it doesn't come on long enough to make any noise.

I can't get into the bios at all. It does the same thing even if I don't have a graphics card in there.

Did you (triple) check to ensure your gettin the mobo mounting correct. Spacers/insulating washers where needed and not if not needed etc. That many RMA's, It's got to be something easy to miss, or not normaly thought of. Is the I/O grounding properly with the case? Did you check all Jumper placement and selections etc.

Yes...checked all that. Every time it had to be RMAed, it was after it worked for a good while and then stopped. When it died the other times, I tried running the board out of the case and had the same problems. This board was working fine in the same position before. Same jumper settings.

I remember reading that one. The board worked fine before, so it wouldn't be that.

Yeah, I could try that. Of course, that means removing my gigantic big typhoon, but oh well.

Pull the MOBO battery and set CMOS jumper in reset, then walk away for a few. Try it all over again.

You always could come halfway back to the light side with the DFI RD600 motherboard.:)

it = gone

I discovered the problem. The 680i has an extra power connector on the board that is supposed to be for "exclusive graphics card power". Well, unplug that, and everything works. Stupid thing. Oddly, that has always been plugged in without problems.

wierd....

Is this with the 8800?

What about without a PCIe card?

I think that extra one is the one he had to remove.

Its the regular molex connector right? The 4 pin PWR3, right?

Regular old molex. Remove it, all problems gone. It has always been plugged in. Oddly, it had the same problems now with no GPU in as long as that molex was plugged in.

The 8 pin is the CPU connector by the way, I know that. This PSU has 4+4, but that doesn't make any difference.
