My dad also has an IBM Thinkpad laptop with 2 GHz CPU, but only 256 MB of RAM which he ownrd for several years, but he never had that many processess running on it, it is very slow cause there isnt enough RAM in there. I think that the reason you brought this up is cause yoiu are having the same slowness problem, right? First thing you should do is clean out your startup menu, if you have lots of programs in startup they are constantly running in the backround and eating up your CPU and memory resourses. This is what my dad has in startup, this should give u an idea: firewall, (if your firewall comes without antivirus you may put it there), windows defender, spyware terminator with shield (antispyware utility with a shield that blocks spyware), spyware guard (another spyware/BHO blocker), AOL (yes, he's using it), rundll32.exe, ctfmon.exe, cthelper.exe, igfxtray.exe. also a couple of IBM and Windows files. I thinkn thats basically it, i'm reproducing this from memory so i cant gurantee 100% accuracy but like i said it should give you an idea. If you have Mozilla firefox in startup, i don't think you need it there, same goes for the googletalk, googledesktop and so on. Take out Windows Messenger, Ituneshelper as well. I'm not sure about the rest since i can't tell what programs you running by its exe extension but use common sense, if the program doesnt need to be running all the time, remove it from startup. I wouldn't touch files labeled System, Netwoirk Service and Local Service unless someone who knows what they are doing tells you to get rid of them. Also if you have any toolbars installed and they are not being used (i.e. yahoo, google, AOL toolbars) get rid of them as they slow down your pc. I hope this helps, good luck!
