Processor Kentsfield Q6600 @ 2.8GHz "I eat source code before breakfast"
Motherboard Asus Striker Extreme 680i (NB:C55XE, SB:MCP55XE)
Cooling Zalman 9700, 1*200mm fan, 5*120mm fans
Memory 8GB OCZ PC6400 - 4*2 @ 622MHz (stability problems)
Video Card(s) Geforce 8800GTS
Storage 2* Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB - no RAID
Display(s) Mitsubishi Diamond Plus 74SB
Case Antec Nine Hundred + optional fans
Audio Device(s) On board (sort of - SupremeFX ADI 1988B)
Power Supply Corsair HW 620w
Software Gentoo GNU+Linux amd64 (latest development kernel)
All I can say is that the Q6600 works flawlessly with the Striker Extreme, which is (purportedly) identical to the P5N-E SLI, except for the lack of on board LEDs and LCD poster. Memory can be a problem, but that's being fixed with the next bios update.

I'm no expert, but I would say you have to choose by what else you want to put with it and what you'll use it for. I assume you've already thought that through, and to have arrived at this choice seems a bit odd to me. Why these two?

nope, its a completely different board, the p5n e sli is a nforce 650i, the extreme is a 680i, i know there is p5n32 e sli (which is the one almost identical to the striker) and a p5n32 e sli plus which is a hybrid (650i northbridge, 570 southbridge)

get an asus board, and corsair xms, almost guaranteed to be compatible, just check the asus website for the boards compatibility with memory. i've always used asus boards and have never had a problem. almost every board i've tried that wasn't asus, sucked in plain english. dont get the WD drive... get a seagate..and dont get the albatron.. :(

i was just looking at the asus p5k. and yes i am waiting for the pricedrop at the end of the month (otherwise the Q6600 is very much unaffordable. )

does anybody know of any memory issues with the p5k family (P5K , P5K-E , P5K Deluxe)
or any issues with any of the mobos stated above

All I can say is I haven't heard great things about P965 boards reliability wise, but they are very good for overclocking if you're into that sort of thing. I agree with FOXCONN1115, get the ASUS board. I prefer Gigabyte myself, but ASUS is very solid. And, you can do SLI on that board if you ever feel the need. As for memory, that Corsair sounds fine to me; i'm planning to use the same stuff in my next build (been planning that build for a while! but I'm too cheap lol)

-My two cents,

CUZZA

I have a P5B-Del + Q6600 and am very happy with it. Others have reported that the new Bearlake-based P5K is great with the Q6600 as well. Nice thing about the P5B-Del is that it's been through several BIOS revisions now and is nice and stable. Also, there are known pencil mods you can do to it like the vdroop mod; I dunno when the P5K will have similar mods that are "authentic" and verified to work.

Ah, thanks for the correction.

I blame it on Asus' marketingdroids. Stupid board names.

I can recommend my board, it had one or two early teething/bios issues which largely are sorted now, it's cheap....fast, can acheive a 520FSB but takes a little getting used to but IMO excellent value for money.

I have never had any memory compatibility issues, especially once I put my sticks in the 2nd dual slots.
