So as noted in my specs, I currently have an 8800GTS 320MB edition. My question to you all for your knowledge and opinions is, should I, or would I be better off getting another 8800GTS 320MB to run SLI, or purchase a single 8800GTX and sell my current 8800GTS? Which would I be better off with? Just for reference, I game on a 22" widescreen at 1680x1050 resolution. Also, I currently have an AM2 X2 4600+ OCed to 3.0Ghz.. will I be bottlenecked by either choice of card(s)? And should I upgrade to a x2 6000+, and maybe add another 2GB of memory?

I would probably go for the 2nd GTS and also get a 6000 or FX62. I know that 1 GTX will probably be better than 2 GTS's but it will also be bottlenecked by your cpu.

Seems you already have 1 gts then getting another is ok. If you were going to buy 2 GTS cards instead of 1 GTX card I would say don't do it.

I don't really like vista, I had it on my laptop and formatted it and installed xp pro. vista is just too buggy and incompatible for my games and such. i was planning on going SLI since I have an SLI board, but am just not sure if I would benefit more from a single GTX or 2 GTS's. As for the processor, is it worth my while to upgrade to a 6000+ from a 4600+? will I notice the difference? Also... The "video memory" will stay at 320MB it won't double in SLI, should I bump to a gtx just for the extra memory? but then again, 2x 320mb gts's outperform a single gtx in sli? and if I was to get a gtx, is there anything I could do about the "bottleneck?"

Benchmark Scores I'm too lazy to benchmark anything.
I assume you are gaming 1680x1050 going off your monitor yes? So if you can sell your current 8800GTS, you will be roughly paying about the same for either a single GTX or two 320s. You have the PSU to power two GTSs or one GTX so thats no problem.

Personally I would go with one GTX because of the extra memory, and the fact that you are dealing with only one card instead of having two.

Without a doubt I would go for the two GTS's in Sli, mainly because they are faster than a GTX, the difference in memory will have little effect at your resolution if any at all, 640Mb will be more than sufficient and you will be consolidating your origional GTS purchase which is what SLi is all about, just my opinion of course.

I would get another 8800GTS just to save some money but if that isn't a problem i would get a 8800GTX.

i know the benefits of sli cause I used to have 2x 7800gt's.. but with the new 8800 series, my single gts outperforms my 7800gt's.. so if I got another 320mb gts, I'd outperform a single GTX in some areas? the only difference would be I'd only have 320MB of video memory, not 768, but do I need 768? And yes I do game at 1680x1050 if the game permitts me to.. What would give me a more noticable game experience over a single 320mb gts, 2x 8800gts 320mb, or a single 768mb gtx? Also.. would getting the 6000+ show me any major benefits over my current 4600+, I wanna grab the 6000+, but I just am not sure if it is worth the extra money, and seeing how there will be new AMD's coming out soon, should I just hold off?

How much are you looking on selling that GTS if you where to get a GTX

Cuz theres this GTX for ($486.99 after $30.00 Mail-In Rebate)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130072

or ($259.99 after $20.00 Mail-In Rebate) for a 2nd GTS
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130082

Are you planning on going to vista any time soon ?

as for selling, I'd hope to get $250 or so, since the card has only been used for less than 2 months, and there is nothing wrong with it. It easily overclocks to 540/1800 memory... maybe more, I haven't really tried to OC the card.. Currently I have it clocked at 535/1700(850) Also, the only reason I'm not using EVGA's step up plan is because they are asking like $100+ more than newegg is offering plus rebate for almost all the EVGA 8800 products.. So I figured if I can sell it for around $250, or just buy a second card, it would be a financially better deal. Money really isn't the problem, I'm just a bargain hunter, I work in retail so I know how prices run and what to look for and what to get and when, and newegg has been my flagship place for PC parts since they have wicked low prices and excellent customer service..

I would go for the 5600+ over a 6000+. The 56 runs at 89 watts, the 6000 is 125 watts, and it will easily overclock to 6000+ speeds.

yea I noticed that and suggested the same thing to others, but I heard the 6000+ gives better performance and can be oced to 3.5ghz easily? Cooling really isn't an issue.. I have an Antec 900, with fans GALORE! lol I also used a Zalman 9700 for cpu cooling.. my 4600+ idles at 28c @3.0GHZ..

Yeah, though technically it doesn't double the amount of video memory, the way SLI works is half of the horizontal lines are processed by each card, which kind of means it will work like 640mb.

you only get 640MB if you buy a 640MB video card

IT doesn't matter if you have a million 8800GTS 320mb cards in your system, it's still 320mb

What? It's 320mb doing half the work. 320 x 2 = 640.

you only get 640MB if you buy a 640MB video card

IT doesn't matter if you have a million 8800GTS 320mb cards in your system, it's still 320mb

? Last time I checked each card does half the work (about half) therefore you have 320mb x 2.

What? It's 320mb doing half the work. 320 x 2 = 640.

No. Each Card is doing its own rendering, thus 320 x 2 = 320. Same as with CPUs: 3,2 GHz DualCore doesn't equal 6,4 GHz, 3,2 GHz QuadCore doesn't equal 12,8 GHz.

@FOXCONN1115:

Get a GTX, it has enough memory and the raw power for 1680x1050. Your CPU @ 3.0 GHz is fine, a 6000+ will clock not much higher with air cooling. The GTS 320 MB cards are crap above 1280x1024 as the VRAM gets filled and minimum fps are too low.

So when comparing benchmarks between 320 vs 640 vs 768 MB, don't look for average or max fps, but minimum fps. In the end it's the only important number.

thats a good point... I can't really complain for what I'm getting. I'm seeing an average of like 40fps in World In Conflict max everything in an online battle with 16 players, and 160FPS average in WoW in a 4person group in an instance.. I just don't know if I should upgrade now, or wait till all the new technology comes out..

i would just get another GTS to hold you over till something better comes out i don't think you would mind the extra FPS gain you get if you like what you are getting now.
