I have a barton 2800+ processor. Unfortunately, I only have the BOX cooler for the moment, which is not a bad cooler, but I can't overclock my processor well with it. The other components are: mobo Abit NF7-S v2.0, graphics GeCube 9550 infinite, ram 2x512 MB Kingmax TinyBGA DDR400 (2-2-2-5-1T@333). If I would change the BOX cooler with a Thermalright SI97+Thermaltake Smart Case Fan II 92mm+Arctic Siver 5 or a Thermalright ALX800+Thermaltake Smart Case Fan II 80mm+Arctic Silver 5, would I be able to raise the fsb from 333 to 400 without problems? Which of the two coolers would maintain the temperature below 50 degrees Celsius at full load when overclocked?

I know one thing, I have a hell or a cooler, it is made for a socket 370 or socket A, this thing cools my AMD Sempron 2200+ down to 36.67 at idle and 42.22 max on load. This is oced from 166*9 to 199*9 without crashing, only after 3 days on a benchmark does it get to such high temps. I think it came stock with an Intel PIII 370 866mhz. It is very tiny, but efficient.

I don't know if you'de get that far though :/, Make sure you have your agp/pci bus cause, I am not familiar with bartons.

What I would try is the CNPS7000B-Cu, by zalman, it has a lot of surface area, but, I myself never tried it. Check some reviews.

okay, well like I said the Swiftech MCX462-V is pretty amazing, I mean from the stock 200mhzx11 (400mhz fsb) clock to 228mhzx11 (456mhz fsb) it works pretty well, I mean that's from 2.2ghz to 2.5ghz. And it's a Barton, it's just got a faster fsb. Your 2800+ might hit those speeds, especially with the slower fsb.

Another factor for good overclocking is RAM, if you've got low-quality high-latency RAM in there you're not gonna go far. I had Corsair Value Select in mine and I only hit 2.35ghz, but now I have Corsair XMS Pro and got 2.5ghz (that's 2x the overclock).

And another factor, when you finally start pushing the processor, is something people call burn-in (at least with my Barton this happened), which means if you push it to, let's say, 2.2ghz, the first time it might restart the computer, but let it run and run for a little while and it'll be stable at 2.2ghz forever (if it's cooled right). That really made me angry at first, because I thought I hit the ceiling every time it restarted, but found out that after a few restarts it started getting stable. So patience is what you need.

10x for your advices, but I need something I can find in my own country, which is Romania. Zalman products are quite hard to find in here and I've never seen Swiftech in here. Though, Thermalright, Thermaltake an Arctic Cooling products are relatively easy to find and quite popular. So I would apreciate if you could recommend something I can find in my own country. I'm going to sell my system soon but I want to sell it with top products onboard, one of my friend who is going to buy it wants something good, so I must get some good parts or give him a list of good things to buy. Neither me or my friend are able to go to another country to buy some special parts. How about the cooling solutions I presented above? I don't think they're that bad, and above all, they can easily be found in Romania.

The thermalright SI-97 takes a 92mm fan and got me to 250MHz x 10 at 1.85V on an XP-M 2500+, but full load temp was 60 C. Going from DDR333 (166MHz) to DDR400 (200MHz) won't really cause much in the way of heat problems.

Hi, I also got an Barton 2800+. At the moment she is running at 220 x 11.5 @ 2.0V. I had to loosen the timings of the memory from 2-2-2-11 to 2-3-3-11 but still runs at the standard 2.75V. At first my EpoX 8RDA6+ Pro couldn't give me FSB's above 200 so I flashed the modded bios version of [Merlin].
To keep everything cool I'm using water-cooling. Both CPU, Northbridge and VGA are cooled with water.

As for the air cooler to choose I would also go for the Thermalright SI-97 with a nice 92 fan. because a friend of mine uses the same model and he is very happy with it. He's running a 2500+ (not mobile) @ 230 x 11 with 1.9V and the temps are quite good. Stressed its about 45~48C.

The memory u are using CL 2,5 @ PC400 (correct me if I’m wrong) so maybe u have to loosen up the timing a bit.
U should look through this review a bit, maybe it'll help you with the timings

The memory I have right now is not essential, I'm going to get myself some GeIL UltraX, so this will never become an issue. Anyway, I'm not going to keep this system for long, I'm going to have a Venice 3000+/Abit AN8 Ultra/Gainward 6600GT/2x512MB GeIL UltraX system before Christmas. I want to overclock my barton only to see how far it can go and find a buyer willing to pay more for it. So, I'll go with Thermalright SI97. 10x a lot guys.
