X800 fuses data for unlocking

I think I've figured out more about what some of the fuses data means. For CONFIG_ROM_FUSES when it is in a form like 0x26X, 0x86X, or 0xA6X:

When X = 0, no pipeline quads are locked in the bios (bios is set to 16 pipelines)
When X = 1, 1 pipeline quad is locked in the bios (bios is set to 12 pipelines)
When X = 2, 2 pipeline quads are locked in the bios (bios is set to 8 pipelines)

This seems to be the case for a lot of bioses I've seen, mainly for R423, R430, and R480. Now, just because you have a zero there, that doesn't mean you have 16 pipelines, it just means that your bios is set to that.

For example, in all cases I've seen a zero there on Powercolor X800 GT's, but that card only has 8 pipelines. However, if you flash that bios to a 16 pipeline card (using the modified flashrom or atiflash -newbios), you will still have 16 pipelines. For example, if you flash it to a GTO2 that hasn't been unlocked to 16 yet (still has 12 pipelines), the Powercolor X800 GT bios will unlock it to 16.

So the Powercooler X800GT bios unlocks pipes? Could it work on a Sapphire X800GTO?! :) i have 0x261 on my Config_Rom_Fuses.

Remove cooler, on the core there are 4 yellow dots like that:

o....o
..o..-
o....o

notice the minus sign, it is a laser cut between two dots, your goal is to connect those dots.

On my card those dots were covered with some thin substance, so i simply used needle to gently rub it of. Then use some conductive pen or pencil (i used some silver conductive gel or whatever they gave me at hardware shop, it costed like 3$) and connect dots around laser cut not filling laser cut itself. Thats all. Now you only need to put back some thermal paste and cooler.

Now your card should perform with 12 pipes. In case pipes are bad you can always clean that bridge you made (so make it carefully at the first place).

EDIT:
there is pic of mycard:

you can notice red dot on upper right corner of the core with 4 yellow dots arround it, also laser blurs in between them. Unfortunately I never took pic of moded core.
I did that mod...only, i didn't go around the laser cut, the card still functions. I've got an X800pro non vivo, oc's pretty high, and stays cool. The conductive ink should still be there, but if the key is to go around the laser cut, then i guess i should go back and redo it...it's been almost a year since then..

I found where this was stored in the bios and used a hex editor to change it. I was exactly right with this, it does affect what pipelines are locked/unlocked in the bios. In addition to those values, when X = 3, 3 pipelines quads are locked in the bios, so you end up with only 4 pipelines left.

I noticed a lot of people are using pci-x cards....am I excluded from all this pipeline fun?? i've got an x800pro non-vivo, as stated previously, and it looks like, based on the conclusions made about the fuses, that i've unlocked my pipes...I've done the hard mod, and traced the link where the laser cut was made. I have also tried to flash the thing, but I don't recall using a modified flashrom...is there a special flashrom i'm supposed to use?? Cause when i did it, i used the latest flashrom on this site, and used rabit to remove the vivo, and flashed it to an xt. The thing worked fine, but the pipes didn't unlock. What's a guy to do?

the pipes are locked on the bottom of the core via lasercuts and are almost certanly bad.. :(

top and bottom :) the ones on top are the only ones worth moding though so it's all good cause the pipes locked on the botom ones are bad anyways ;)

the lasercuts on the botom are cut before the core is marked to be used on any model they are there to perminatly disable bad pipes

So do you mean you can unlock pipes just by modifying that value ,instead to use a modded flash?
You got the unlock by Hex-editing?
So..Could that be a way to reduce risk of a wrong bios flash?

great work shadowflare

It's not really that useful, since you can get the same effect without hex editing by just flashing the bios using methods that have been posted. Someone could ask the author of RaBiT to add that feature, though. That would make it easy for others to do the mod on the number of pixel pipelines. Especially since just modifying only that value is not all that should be done; there are CRC values, checksums, or something similar that need to be changed, too. I have found that if you modify that value, then open and save the bios in RaBiT, it will fix those things, though.

There is one reason that it was useful for me, though. By modifying that I was able to reduce the pipelines on my card so I could test it at X800 GT speeds.

Is there a hard mod I could do? Can the pipes be physically re-connected, bypassing where they are cut?

but could be that be a safer way ,respect to a bios flash?

Speaking for me:
i don Have a pci videocard,and i could'nt resolve a bad bios -flash,
that's why i'm not tryng,though deep tempted.

if making that manually ,would be it safer ,what ya think?
