I suppose when you have that kind of laptop you don't care about fans making noise like they are about to take flight. Why not just adapt a regular ATX psu with a bigger and less noisier fan?

These adapters are usually around 19V on the output, so you'd need some sort of boost converter to use a standard ATX PSU for this.

for masochism mind you, to have a mobile workstation, and to carry this around.
I wonder at some point if its possible to build sort of nuc sized pc with inbuilt "battery", considering it won't last long at 125w+ loads, and a thin'n light laptop shaped interfacer. so its a pc... that is used like a laptop... but is a desktop all things considered...

Mobile workstations get used mostly as a DTR and therefore don't get carried around much. My wife, for example, does ERP migrations, auditing and such in a corporate environment. This apparently does need a lot of horsepower, so she uses the Eurocom Tornado. She travels with it a lot, but when she puts it in place, it doesn't really get moved for weeks, so a chunky power supply isn't a problem. As for using a light laptop as an interface for a much faster device, she does use a Thinkpad and Citrix to work remotely on her company's quite powerful infrastructure, but sometimes you just want a fast computer locally, and size just isn't a concern in many situations.
