Why should people get preferential treatment because we have widescreens? Widescreen might be becoming the standard, but it isn't the standard yet, and there are far more gamers out there with standard monitors than widescreen monitors. So why cater to the smaller section of your customer base while screwing over the larger section? Why should the standard people suffer because they have standard monitors?

Did I say preferential? No. You seem to look at this as an "us" and "them" situation. It's either one or the other, not both.

I'd be moaning for the 'standard users' (don't be so harsh on yourselves guys) if they weren't getting that, even though I have a widescreen monitor. I just think it's a shame that I'm missing the extra bits I should be seeing.

Can't help but feel it's as if somebody took my plate away before I'd finished eating. That would upset me just as much, if not more!

Thats the thing. They're not taking your plate away before
you finish. You're still perfectly capable of playing in 4:3 mode.

Whereas 4:3 is NOT capable of widescreen.

I figured I'd throw together a quick image of what the people bitching about wideseeners getting screwed want to happen. This time it is a represnetation of what happens if the game is designed for widescreen and the sides are cut off for the standard users, just like the hypocritical widescreeners want to happen. If the game switches to doing it that way do the standard users get to freak out like the widescreen users have here?

No one needs to freak out. Games can be designed to be played in native widescreen and standard 4:3. All valve games do it, and so do most xbox 360 games.

4:3 users aren't losing out on anything if 16:9 users get an extended FOV, its just due to the nature of the monitor.

But if its an issue that is going to really affect if you purchase the game or not you can wait to buy the game. This isn't the first game to do it, so if it is important to you then you should be waiting to buy every game until you can find this information out.

I guess if seeing the top 1 or 2 centimeters is crucial to having fun in a game, then kudos to you for impeccable tastes. I for one enjoy the game's storyline and game play, not FOV's.

People are so good at overreacting... I mean OMFG why are so many of you angry about this? - This reaction is dipshit territory. I mean, oh noes! If you use a widescreen you don't get to see a bit of the screen that you never saw before, how angry you should be! That few inches at the top and bottom are so very precious... You're not missing anything, take a step back (literally, and in the game) and see the full picture. This isn't a film, stop jabbering!

( I use a 20" Dell 2007wfp btw, I'm not a hypocrite).
