My vote is still for Supreme Commander as there has never been a game that did so much correctly, and in depth. Like I stated before, if I want to get technical I play Supreme Commander, if I want a quick match I play CnC 3. CoH is great also, definately a different and very interesting take on RTS, but Supreme Commander in my mind tops any RTS ever made, which was it's goal. It does take a hefty system to run, but is easily attainable now-a-days. If you are an RTS fan, you owe it to yourself to enjoy Supreme Commander, because to me and many others it is the SUPREME RTS! FTW!

There are many great RTS genre based games, for me it started with Command and Conquer, I have been hooked on RTS games since. Red Alert was probably my favorite offline, Sole Survivor was probably my most favorite online (who played SS? It was great fun!), but now, with current technology, not many can argue Supreme Commander does an excellent job of utilizing current PC technology and providing a great gaming environment. :toast:

I got command and conquer TW, half the times i play there. i get people trying to destroy my defenses instead of ripping through my base, while i destroy through a side. It is quite boring

well i got Supreme Commander today, so far its pretty cool. nicely balanced from what i can see (but according to pros theres a some craft called the "mercy" with is OP). the graphics aren't amazing as CnC and it has a unit cap. but its gameplay out does any RTS ive played (cept pop maybe). one day i'll try CoH online

Ditto... Supreme commanders graphics are insane!

You just need one heck of a system to crank them up and 2 monitors to really use it :)

Supcom graphics don't require a fast system, it's the physics that do. Every trajectory and such is calculated real time instead of using some table and/or odds to hit or miss. When there are many units this gets your system to the ground quite easily, graphics aren't really the issue.

I know very well... My point was it will use massive video and looks REALLY nice if you have a hot video card setup and multi monitors so you can see one zoomed in and one zoomed out.

I have everything cranked up in SupCom, and it runs and looks amazing! It doesn't have the hi-contrast graphics of CnC 3. But it's cool how the area is affected by warfare, and tell me that the water effects in that game aren't the best of any RTS? Sure some of the ship movement isn't the most realistic, but the waves, ripples, reflections and so on look beautiful. And when you start and your mech lands in the middle of a small forest watching trees get laid out and start on fire and spread is awesome. The physics is great, the graphics to me are still great, it will take a lot for SupCom to be beaten in my mind.

I love the zooming, and just love the overall game, it's wonderful! :toast:

Supreme Commander FTW!

yea its an interesting take, cus the enviroment does get effected by what you do..the bad thing is the small online player base i guess. but hopefully this will grow with the expansions. and there's only one balance problem - mercys (guided missles)

I think you're right there. The game just slows down as the battle sizes and unit numbers increase. 8 player uncapped matches are becoming a no-no for me on my aging athlon, regardless of resolution.

Yes SupCom is processor and ram intensive! VERY!

What I was saying is the graphics can get really nice if you have good enough video cards and you can always enjoy them if you have dual monitors.

e6300 or better
2 gigs of ram or better

A clean running machine and your pretty good to go for Supcom, even in the largest maps and games.

I think I'm going to say overclocked E6300 or better. Otherwise you'll need a E6600 at least to see it's full potential. I agree with 2GB's or fast RAM is also essential. It's the reason I bought another 1GB.

Well ya but everyone who buys a e6300 overclocks.... Lol

Yes though 2gb of ram is the biggest thing... I gained so much even on my old Intel 915 2.8 dual core when I went to 2gb of ram in that game... Just a world difference... Obviously when I went to 4gb and got my Xeon nothing slows it down anymore... 8 players 81x81 map and 4 hours later it still goes on smooth and fast.

You lucky little ^%£%$£! No seriously though, you think more than 2GB's makes a difference?

EDIT: This is quite useful.

For supreme commander yes a little in REALLY big games.
But we are literally talking about 7 computer players and me in a 81x81 or larger map for hours on end.

So for 99% of players, no don't bother you wont need it.

IMO-
6300/5200x2
2gb of ram
7600/1650

And you are pretty solid for normal game play and online matches.
I said the video cards above because then you can have some slightly nicer settings and keep it a little pretty without getting 10fps.
