ok, to simply put it, i dont have much energy left to put into my friggin computer... I went from a kingwin as3000 little 2x 5.25 bay liquid cooling system to this monster asetek + swiftech + thermaltake cooling system and now my idle temp is at 40..... instead of ~32-34....

what the hell did i do wrong? i paid like 3x as much for a colling system 1/3rd as good? i do not beleive that the kingwin piece outperforms all this fancy schmancy stuff. no way. na-uh.

i used artic silver 5, which buy the way tastes really good......just kidding, but how much of this stuff should i have used, i used a wee lil dab in the center, it's instruction manual talks about a break in period.... hogwash or legit???

ARGGGHHH. im broke :banghead:, frustrated :banghead:, and been working to get this system into my computer so I can continue with some computationally-intensive schoolwork...

:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

im idling at freaking 42 degrees right now.... somone please tell me that the past 3 weeks i spent working on this freakin system were not a total waste...please.

have a nice day.
(and thanks . . . unless you give me worse news)

Did you use the spacers for the Storm? Make sure the block is completely level.

Also, how is it laid out in your setup? You think you could get some pictures?

I actually used another bracket for the block, i can't imagine it's not level, but obviously poor performance possibly says otherwise... i couldnt find any decent picture or instructions on swiftech site...

the block will not budge, at all. is this a safe indication that it is flat?

im googling for as5 break in period significance and reading that about a 5 degree drop can be expected once the paste has had time to bond or arrange itself on a molecular level ... a 5 degree drop wouldnt be enough if you ask me though.... im at 45 now and was idling at ~ 34 with the kingwin system i mentioned...

thanks for the help man

Asetek pump + STORM = not good

Simple as that.

STORM requires a stronger pump with lots of head pressure. That Asetek is not up to the job.

Just bare with it until you manage to sell the pump and buy a Laing DDC (Swiftech MCP350/355). ;)

that asetek pump is that bad i had one/still have one. I've used it with my apogee/MCW30/MCW60 all in one loop and it worked fine..... Make sure the PCB at the back of the pump isn't burning hot. My PCB on the pump went bad once... temps were really bad because the pump was hardly working.... just a thought.

Well not the whole computer but I would be interested for the cpu-block if it had brackets for LGA775 and/or socket 478:D

Would you be interested to sell?

so what should i do, buy new pump? (which one???) mpc355 has biggest "nominal head" which doesnt really make sense to me, is this an indication of how high water can be pumped? if it is then this is a function of your tubing size... which would mean with the 1/2in ID tubing im using it would be less than that..... F*@^%!.

what about this one:
http://www.petrastechshop.com/laddcwpeddto.html

i heard the storm block was the best. (emphasis on the period at the end of sentence)
i bought this pump (asetek) obviously as a mistake, having been sold by the usb-interface and all... hopefully somone can learn from my ignorance.

im pissed. i keep f*cking up cuz im in a rush all the time wah wah wah why dont i cry about it lol

thanks for the help everyone. 'tis 'ppreciated.

what about the laing D5-38 Vario pump? 12ft of head apparently...

If you get a pump with the 3/8 than you can just get 3/8 to 1/2 that will make it so you can use the 1/2 tube that you have now so that isn't that big of a deal it would only be about $2 more.

:wtf: so your just at 2680Ghz+/-

yeah I would check if its flush with the cpu cuz im at 3.6GHz in bios 1.525v windows shows 1.48v and I idle at 40c but my room is 73F but im using that pump from Petra's Tech Shop with 6 blocks to top it off

cuz do you know your room temps ?

and what fans do you have on the rad. you do have some right ?

holy crap. thats impressive. i got 2 120mm fans on the rad, im thinking the problem is the block and the fact that the pressure is far from great enough to get good thermal transfer, the tubes dont even feel the slightest bit warmer than the room temp of ~73 degrees....

the swiftech website suggests the mpc655 for the storm block, but do you think that pump you have is much better? sounds like it no?...

thanks again

well take the block off and see if the paste was spread out

cuz that pump should be good for just a block and 2X120mm rad

whats about the air that comes out of the rad. does that feel warm

p27182,
"Nominal head" is a result of the head pressure a pump delivers.
The higher the pressure, the easier it is for the pump to push water through a block like STORM. Pretty much all DDC models are strong enough to work with STORM. The 18W model only has higher flow and high acoustics...

D5 is pretty much an obsolete design since the DDCs came around, DDCs have equal or better specs, lower acoustics and a lower price. They're all built by the same company btw.

DOM_ATI_X800XL_PCI-E,
STORM is based on flow acceleration via jet impingement and a machined micro-bowled baseplate, the design has an extreme flow restriction but high thermal performance.

that thing would heat the water more than a Core 2 Quad @ 4GHz.
