If you need 80 gigabytes to listen to all of your music, then I believe that you don't really like the music you're listening to. If you actually liked the music, you wouldn't need 30,000 other songs.

Well you do realize that some people use their iPods for other things. I know the DJ we hired for our dances at my old middle school used two iPods for his music. That wasn't even enough, I think he also had cd's. I bet that's because he used lossless encoding. That requires alot of room. It's supposed to half the amount of space you need? So let's say your average cd uses 600 mb.....300mb per cd. 80 gb can get filled up quick. But that's just one example....the DJ we use at my school now just has a laptop (well I think)....computers FTW :rockout:

Well, I like to collect music, I can't really say that I listen to all of it at all times though. There are a select few bands that I love, and some that I really do like, but want to collect.

SO...yeah, not everyone is a DJ but that doesn't mean I can't be a fan of music in general.

I have almost 80GB of music on my iPod, and I love everything that's on there. In fact, I don't put music on there that even has a chance of me not liking it. Couple things to note, I have the Rockbox firmware on my iPod, so most of my music is in FLAC. The ones that aren't in FLAC, are my absolute favorites, and they are in AIFF or WAV.

And yes, you can hear the difference with $400 Shure in ears, or even on my studio monitors.

I have less than a GB of other stuff on my iPod, and only 5GB are free. I also own everything that's on there. If that's not someone that loves music, I don't know what is.

Lol, I have no problem with the iPod itself. It's a great looking machine, and the hardware and build quality is very good. What I hate (the same with any sony player) is that fact I'm tied in to a specific program to transfer my music, and I can't change the battery if it dies.

u can they had the kits in maplins and the tutorials on youtube on how to change the batteries

How many songs do you actually have though? FLAC files are much larger than mp3 are they not?

Yeah, much larger, and like I said, some are even uncompressed AIFF and WAV. It's probably somewhere in between 2000 and 3000.

Ahh... I have around 5200 mp3 songs, plus some movies. Still haven't filled my 30 gig yet (but i'm just using selected artist playlist, so not all of the songs are on there). However, FLAC has much better sound quality than mp3.

I have about 40gb of music on my ipod. Though recently the last 10gb of music i put on there were Apple Lossless encoded...and believe me that takes up a lot of space. And i listen to almost all of it. I have more than one style of music and i like having a variety within every category so i spent years finding good tunes. Granted some are torrented, but those are mostly albums i've owned at one point and can't find the disk. Music lovers have tons of music...thats just the way it goes.

I have about 25GB filled on my 30GB iPod. It's ~2200 songs, podcasts, and all my pictures. It's nice to be able to carry around my whole Pictures folder and show them to family & friends, especially when visiting. Yeah, I don't listen to all of the music, but like the assurance that when I hit "Shuffle", I'll get a great variety that's never boring. Also have playlists for every occasion and keep all the songs I own on there for that reason as well (i.e. workout, running, party, playin cards, romantic, relaxing, pissed off, 80s, 90s, etc, etc).

I'd love a high capacity flash based iPod though, the lag from the HDD gets annoying and I hate worrying about jolting it to much when working.

Good job Apple. BTW, my battery is about to hit the 2 years mark and is taking longer to charge, but ok performance wise. :p

I just hope the new shuffle can have a tiny sliver of an lcd on there just so we can tell what music we are gonna play on it. thats my only gripe with that player. Also last i heard Zune had 640x480 resolution compared to apples 320x240 (can anyone say NUTKICK :nutkick:) last i checked correct me if im wrong though

pERSONALLY I PREFER THE sAN DISKS MYSELF (THE RHAPSODY ENABLED ONE) just because you can take out the battery very easily AND you can put in a flash card (MicroSD mind you but hey at least theres a slot) if you run out of room.. This right here with plugging in a flash card would be a nice move by apple but i seriously doubt they would do that just because they don't like the idea of VERY MANY outside parties connecting withtheir equiipment for shame:shadedshu:shadedshu
