Steve Jobs has received tons of emails from iPhone customers complaining about the $200 price cut on the iPhone only two months after it was released. After reading through every single one of the e-mails, he has now decided to offer every iPhone customer who purchased an iPhone from either Apple or AT&T a $100 store credit towards the purchase of any product at an Apple Retail Store or the Apple Online Store.

Yeah, title fails to mention that tis $100 Store Credit.

$100 is a good start to buying a $150 ipod nano.

^^ true, I like store credit too :) well I like to spend all my $$ lol I just wish one of the ipod devices had fm radio... I really wish the new shuffle did.. cause I would grab one for sure! (it would add a bit of size to the shuffle but I thinit would be worth it) :rockout:.

i dont get people man,

you know they bitch about the price of the iphone (600 dollars) and he lowers it to satisfy the customers that could not afford an iphone now its 400 and the ones who have it bitch about the cut

i feel bad for him

and he still just gave out alot of money...if you think about it 100 dollars to each who spent 600 on the phone is alot of money. Also now losing 200 dollar profit on the iphones after price cut...

Frankly the only surprising thing to me is that he gave the money back. Its no secret that products launch at a higher price, because some people are willing to pay damn near any price for something they WANT. Products launch at a higher price because of this, they can capitalize on the fact some people are willing to pay more, and once everyone who was willing to pay that price had bought one, everyone else wants one and the company reduces the price, hell I know people shallow enough to go buy an iphone right now, just so they can brag to some other asshole that they got the same thing for cheaper...

It really is a nice move though, most people who payed the higher price did so because they didnt really care, this $100 back is just money they already thought they spent so they probably wont think twice about spending it on stuff for their new phone or perhaps music/movies/tv shows for it.

I dont think Jobs has any reason to give back the money outside of saving face for his company, sure the average joe might not think to highly of apple if he didnt give it back but who cares...Apple is not about the average joe anyway, if they were we'd be buying cheap crap at a huge mark up...instead of genuinely nice and classy products...at a huge mark up ;)

Its a nice thing to do, but I wouldnt get to attached to the idea of this being adopted by anybody else in the position to do so.

giving $100 no refundable store credit is hardly giving $100 back, how the I-phone could have been initially valued at 600$ to begin with i will never know, it is Hardly a PS3 is it.

When you consider that these people already bought the phone, Jobs didn't have to do anything at all. Even if it is just a $100 Apple Store credit, it's still something extra.

should have refunded the whole price cut, still 100$ is better than nothing,
still think they should have stuck symbian os on it though,

essentially he is giving $100 of Apple products away. No matter what most of you say, it was over priced, but the folks who bought them should have had to weigh through the consequences. Now, its hard to spend a $100.00 dead nutts, most folks will get at least $50 bucks over, so he is essentially only losing $50.

Its pretty good of them, true, but i dont believe for one second that Jobs personally sat there and read every email, yet another attempt to paint him as a nice guy in the process

Lets see. AMD K8 2Ghz 3800+ dualcore cost about 500$ after release. Now the same cpu, even on new socket, but tehnically thats the same K8, cost 50$. Are you asking 450$ back from AMD?
E6600 cost about 400$ after release. Now E6750 cost 200$. And not to mention E6750 ir lot faster.
Thats the same tech, same all, just price difference. To be honest, we are not buying product itself, we are paying for marketing price. It would cost 75$ to make iPod today, and 75$ to make iPod after half year. Retail price after half year will be as twice as cheap.

stupid apple hippies are always complaing about something. hippies, you fell for the marketing bait and paid 500-600 bucks for new technology. and when the price drops you cry like the dirty hippies you are about it. if you had half a brain cell left (we know youve been killing them by doing drugs) then you would understand the basic economics of the situation. jobs should have said "screw you hippies, you will still do my bidding!! what, are you going to buy microsoft products now?? muwahaha!!"

Well at least you're honest with yourself.

True, I don't lie to myself and say that's a smart post. :wtf:

EDIT: This is sad, a Senior Moderator thanks someone for an offensive post, and then labels me as a "stupid apple hippie"... Maybe I care too much, but everytime I say something is offensive on these boards someone has to say something like, "Oh, well if your offended you must be that generalized person." Last time I said something about a post that I considered offensive concerning Valve President Gabe Newell, I got called fat in turn. I mean come on guys...

You know what, you can take a break from TPU if you find everything that offensive.

I missed the part where I labeled you a "stupid apple hippie"?
