I sure thought Gateway had been put out to pasture permanently. Why the hell did someone decide to raise the dead?
Because it sounds better than Shenzhen Bmorn Technology when you want to sell products outside of the PRC?
Acer still owns the brand name, they're just making some cash by licensing it, kind of like Philips, RCA and a bunch of other brands.

Wow, who knew, I had a gateway system at one point, I think that's the one I put my foot through!?.

Is it me or is that picture slyly implying that windows 11 is a cow and Intel an old goat?!.

Plus I wouldn't use that as my dairy drive.
Well played. Yep.

I thought Gateway was basically dead. Its been nearly a decade since the last time I had seen one in a store and the last time I went to their website, they were selling laptops with hardware from several years prior.

As per one of my earlier replies in this thread, Acer owns the Gateway brand and was selling Acer products branded as Gateway up to a point. Now they licensed the name to some PRC company, so who knows what these products are in terms of quality.

When I was working retail around 2014, I remember us having Gateway laptops and they were junk then. We also had the other then junk now defunct Acer brand emachines and those were even worse. Its interesting that Packard Bell also became yet another Acer junk brand.

I don't think Acer is bad, just some of those other brands they acquired are bad now. And I'm not saying all Gateways are crap either, but the ones I dealt with directly at least were not laptops I recommended to people unless they were desperate for a computer and staying within a very limited budget was absolutely crucial. These were also Walmart sku numbers and walmart has a reputation for stocking inferior versions of products other retailers carry so that may be the case as well.

Hi,
Most were crap because they came with crapware namely norton or mcafee
Get rid of that/ clean install and they were just fine.

Actually speaking of Acers own branded products, one of the nicest laptops we ever had was this muted gold Acer ultra book. I believe it may have been an Aspire S3. I wanted it so bad and I didn't even need it. I still think that was one of the cooler ultrabooks I have seen and it had impressive build quality for how thin it was.

Hi,
Intel systems were pretty reliable amd were full of driver issues

Manufactures built things differently back then to now days it's like cell phone crap 2-3 years and time to get a new pretty much why I started building my own and haven't bought a new lappy overpriced junk.
Fortunately amd is getting a lot better so my next lappy will likely be amd.

I've been very impressed with AMD's laptop chips lately as well. Thermals and energy use are much better than intel now which of course is crucial in a laptop.

My personal laptop is Gateway branded. I've had it a little over a year, and I'm impressed with it. I paid $650 for it, it has an i5-10300H and an RTX3060. It's missing some creature comforts, like Thunderbolt and USB-C charging. But for a $650 laptop with decent gaming performance, I'm really impressed. It only came with a 256GB NVMe SSD, but there is a second M.2 that I put a 2TB NVMe in and I upgraded the RAM to 16GB. I've been very happy with it.

Linus actually did a video about it here:
