TBH, a single 2900Pro running at XT speeds and overclocked flat out would bottleneck any dual core....C2D or AMD at 3Gig, these are damn powerful cards and as DaMulta indicates.....Crossfire them and well.....without a Quad running pretty quick or maybe a C2D running at 4Gig + (nudge, nudge, wink, wink he says refering to his specs) then there will be bottlenecking.

DaMulta (or anyone else!), I know there is a lot of demand on your time here and you are itching to get into games and stuff, but I would really really appreciate it if sometime soon you could do a 3D mark 2006 with a single card, CPU and Pro maxed to the highest overclock so I can get a feel for the single card max performance.

So what do you get with the card overclocked and the quad at 3.4Gig in 3D Mark 2006 if you dont mind me asking?

unfortunately my machine gets too hot and crashes..
i will buy a better cooler at the end of the month and check it out...

could be the card itself is too hot with the overclock i have it set on... im not sure..
what I do know is that I get 500 points more clocking from 3.2ghz - 3.4ghz...
so if a 0.2ghz overclock on the cpu gives me 500 more points on a stock card theres definately a lot more to be driven from it.

I think I just overclocked the card too high as i could do 3.4ghz on stock ... but not 3.4ghz with the gfx set to XT standards

I can run 858 stable(stock cooler)I think I posted a screen shot of one of those runs already.

That is as high at ATi CCC goes....Need ATi Tool to do the max out:)

blah...

I'm starting to think that x2900xt IS actually a great card, 8800 series is just MUCH less CPU depending. And those 3DMark06 world records with 4GHz+ CPUs seem to show the same. Same goes for x2900pro, awesome card for the price, if you have a prosessor to back it up.

Anyone have an Allendale, like is cache amount important or just clock speed? Still x2950pro (so version) for me, as these are most like sold out soon and even if I wanted one, there wouldn't be any left :)

Sapphire!

Thanks, TBH and only personally speaking, I have never much liked Sapphire although I appreciate they have a great following. There are still loads of Pro's available in the UK but mainly powewrcolor and Club3D, I think if I get one it shall be a powercolor only because, of the only 2 Club3D's I have seen in another forum one didnt overclock very well (althought the other did 860/2000).

As usual they cost more over here, the cheapest of any make is about £164 so double it for US$, I think you can almost get the 1Gig GDDR4 for that in the states! The downside is that I can only flash an XT BIOS through Winflash and it would appear that the newest ATi Winflash (Sep 07) does not support the XT Bios (My HDD's are NTFS formatted and all DOS boot disks are FAT32 so wont work).....so I am having doubts though I recognise that they can still overclock well, the XT flash will only improve performance if it allows for increased voltage.

ANyways, I am monitoring stock levels and will have to make a decision over the next couple of days, if I could get a pro that will overclock and with my CPU give me near 14000 in 3D Mark 2006 (my 8800GTS 640 gives me almost 12,400) plus perform as well as my voltmodded 8800GTS in AA then I would have bought a couple already!

Make a boot iso, like damulta did. That's how he flashed his. Besides, what does NTFS have to do with a boot disk? The boot disk doesn't do anything with your hard drives.

Yes it does have something to do with your hard drive....it reads the boot sector, and a FAT32 disk cannot read a NFTS boot sector. Hmmmm thanks for the ISO bit tho, I didnt know that would work.

Sure, but I've used many a boot CD ISO's to flash my vid cards for the last two years using Win XP NTFS file systems w/o issues. And I even put my bios junk on the C: drive if I can't get them to show up on the ISO CD (dunno why, but it's a crapshoot for me). And I've flashed this x1950 using a Boot CD ISO a few times using Vista NTFS/XP NTFS systems, using the Windows dedicated NTFS partition with the BIOS files located on C:, was able to navigate to and flash the file w/o issue. I forget the utility, but it loads NTFS compatable DOS or something like that. Works very well!

I've never had an issue with floppy boot disks while flashing. You just put the BIOS on the boot disk, and your hard drive doesn't effect it at all.

I've never had an issue with floppy boot disks while flashing. You just put the BIOS on the boot disk, and your hard drive doesn't effect it at all.

So I am guessing your HDD's are FAT32?......a floppy disk is formatted FAT32, when you make a DOS boot disk in windows and then add your flash proggie and BIOS file, when you come to boot from the floppy, the boot files.....ie Command.com identify the harddisk and request read access, the disk cannot gain read access from an NFTS formatted HDD....look upon it as another language....so no go, just an error report "cannot read from disk".

Strangely whilst we have been posting I scoured the net and have actually found a free proggie that can be downloaded onto a bootdisk that allows it to communicate with the NTFS HDD on startup, so if I get a pro, I will give it a try......its called "NTFSforDOS".

This is one good reason why I always flash a new CMOS from windows....hence why I was hoping that ATi Winflash might work for the Gfx flash :(

No, I'm ntfs. Still no probs flashing/dumping a bios to/from a floppy. Never had an issue with NTFS drives, ever. The only reason I could see it being a problem is if you were trying to access files on your hard drive with the boot disk. But like I said, I always put the file I need on the floppy itself, so no issues.

Damn thats strange, I have read of so many problems since I had my problem so to speak and all the material out there says it cannot be done  Obviously it can, I am going to have to investigate more, but thanks.

Yeah, I have flashed with a boot disc before and I had no problems. My file system is NTFS. I did it with my X1800GTO.

I'm on NTFS all I did was find a floppy drive and format a boot disc. The option is still there in XP.

Then I copied over atiflash and the bin file.

if you use nero and make a boot cd with it,use the nero image file for the boot file.and when you boot from the cd,you can access all of the windows ntfs partitions from the dos prompt.thats how i flashed my ati x800 before.

So I think I got the voltage adjustments to work with ATI tool. I played with the memory voltages a tiny bit and I can definitely push it further than I could before. I am pretty sure it is working because the riva tuner monitor confirms each step in voltage that I make. Does anyone know what the VDDC, MVDDC and MVDDQ voltages are for an XT?
