So I purchased my new system components last friday:
P5KC
e6750
2G OCZ Reaper 8500 pn:2RPR10662GK
XFX 8800 GTS 320
THERMALTAKE PUREPOWER RX 550W

Needless to say I was excited to see what I could get out of this setup. However it seems the answer is close to SFA as there are issues with my board accepting the OCZ memory.

With everything on auto the memory is detected as 667Mhz 5-5-5-15 and will only boot into windows 1 out of 3 tries, yet once it does it's rock solid.

I've tried setting everything manually, increasing the Dram voltage to 2.4, leaving the 5-5-5-15 settings and bumping the TWR, TRFC, TWTR, TRRD, TRTP all the way up to 10, 42, 10, 10, 10 and it still won't post at anything higher than 800Mhz, and even 800Mhz is not stable.

So far I believe this is either a compatibility issue between the OCZ ram and the P5KC, bad ram or a bad mobo. Any of you guru's have any other questions, suggestions, or comments?

Check Bios settings (sec 4.4.1 of manual) set Dram Frequency to DDR2-1066.
Try voltage at 2.3 Vdimm.

I have done that, everything from 667 to 1066 and voltages from 1.8v all the way up to 2.35v (2.4v voids my warranty so I won't say that I tried that even though my bios does not provide 2.35v...) it only boots semi-reliably when set to 667.

I am not sure if this helps, but I spent about 6 hours reading about mobo compats and these chips vs other boards and ram chips... what I saw consistently was that the chips and boards "work" but are difficult to set up as they auto read, not the correct technical term. Somehow if you can get the bios to set correctly and not "auto read" they should be stable .. did you call tech support for Asus?
OK just re read your thread, seems the chips are 667 or 1333 seems pretty fast... 800 would be 1600... what are you looking for, remember these number are doubled as they are dual channel chipsets? I recommend looking at the temps of all your components, and not using auto settings.. atemptingto get those speeds seems like a streatch, the reviews I read had chips running in hte 1050-1100 range,.... good luck hope I am right on the doubling part if not oops.. that is my best advise though, can someone confirm that if he has chips set at 667 they are runnign 1333? Goodluck

Sorry if I wasn't clear, by 667 I meant an actual speed of 333Mhz or PC-5300.

ok, you should be able to get better speeds than these, are you running hot? if your system runs cool and you are not gettingto post and windows at sub 1000 speeds there is an issue..
Without running through all the gauntlet of parameters it would be hard to say.. .. I always remember that more speed needs more power but needs to cool...
I cannot remember off the top of my head what volts the best results where forthsoe chips, try googling the reviews , shoudl be a quick study as you are only looking for the one ram. See what they used in there oc setting and try to duplicate it for volts.. good luck

Tatty One, I live in Canada, but that would mean being sans home PC while the ram crosses the ocean :( .

Freeboy, TAT states my cpu idles around 22 (I heard I need to add 15c for the P35 chipset though) and at load its around 42c with my Scythe ninja +rev. B HS. My case is a server tower with the cover off, so its well ventilated with 3 120mm silent X's thrown in for good measure. Long story short, temps are awesome. Even my 8800 is idling at 45c and 60c under load after a decent OC to 650/2000.

My ram seems to like 2.2v and is warrantied to 2.35v but can take over 2.4 thanks to the heatpipe and sinks on them. Basically everything SHOULD be awesome yet its not. I have done about 35 hours on research on this problem alone and so far everything points to incompatibility between my motherboard and my ram. I want to make sure I have exhausted every possibility before I RMA my motherboard. Btw I have tried every bios release available.

Download the latest version of core temps, you dont have to worry about adding and subtracting them....it's the only accurate tool for G0's.

And not if I sent you mine first, you install to ensure all is well then ship to me, whats a few days, I'll just take a holiday abroad! Ohhhhh my daughter has a laptop :D

Good info on core temps, will do that tonight. About the memory I contacted OCZ and they advised RMA'ing the ram.

I'm curious though, can you not purchase OCZ reapers in the UK? They are not cheap here at $210cdn (about 105 GBP) before tax so I don't see why you would be willing to trust a stranger for used ram :p though if there is anything I can do to help I will.

Try setting up rig with last known compatable settings and just one stick of Ram; then run memtest, then do the other stick. Could be the pair is not matched properly or one stick is having problems.

No I can get them here, was just thinking part exchange and a bit of cash may work out cheaper....no worries tho, your best bet is to RMA.

I dont think anyone has told this guy to update his bios yet. Flashing to the latest bios revision can often fix a lot of ram compatibility issues..

Always download the latest bios as soon as you buy a new mb.... :)

try that.

after you flash it, go into bios and load optimised defaults. Save it and reboot. See if that works mate...

My motherboard came with bios v0701, I reflashed it to 0701, then to 0605, then back to 0701. I even cleared the cmos for over 10 min and nothing. I have since RMA'd the ram and the new stuff does the same thing, yet works perfect on another board(1200MHz stock voltage). I have looked at the asus forums and it seems to be common with the P5KC. I created a tech ticket with asus, we'll see what they have to say.

It seems your only option is to change the board or the ram unfortunatley. :(

This german tech site http://www.forumdeluxx.de/forum/showthread.php?t=380615 states that especially 2x1GB DDR2 1066 modules should be put only in the black slots of the Asus P5KC.
No joke.

Wow, Asus does not seem to be sure about their own products.
