Apple does it with storage and ram, and it does work sadly...
I've been saying for quite a while that NVidia has adopted an Apple-like sales model, overpricing everything and counting on the blind fans to defend and justify their actions.

As long as we have good alternative, its not a big deal. Society has always had more well to do consumers and not well to do.

We are lucky we have AMD, because we get to enjoy all the same stuff on a budget, which is why I advocatef or AMD sometimes. If I get a 60k a year job though I'd probably grab a 4090 too lol

Wouldn't actually even be surprised if 3060 12GB will be useful longer than 3060 Ti/3070/3070 Ti.

I find it hard to believe that there're still nVidia diehards saying nVidia didn't have this 'planned early obsolescence' deal up their sleeves. Even back then, they were full aware that 8GB VRAM buffer would not be enough for future games. After all, we've been demanding high res texture, RT, yada, yada over and over again, and well duckies, it comes as no surprise that these come at a cost, more VRAM. The RTX 3070 series are powerful cards, and with more VRAM, can show their true potential (gloriously demonstrated by the modded RTX 3070 16GB).

Honestly, can anyone logically argue that their performance have been gimped due to 8GB VRAM? I feel that nVidia is doing likewise with the RTX 4070 series cards, the RTX 4070/4070 Ti deserve more VRAM, 12GB is perhaps enough for now, but in one to two short years, might show a weakness due to VRAM. The RTX 4070 is about as fast as the RTX 3080 Ti, with the RTX 4070 Ti being a fair bit faster, yet they have the same amount of VRAM as near flagship card from two years ago.

I gotta learn how to do this. I have a few 3070's and 3070 ti around. Heck, maybe increase vram in my 3080 too

Why not just power shunt an RTX A4000???
That seams unnecessary...
$1000 for A4000, while losing the warranty and risking to kill the card while you can just spend $600 for 6950x and get not just 16gb ram, but also 30% extra performance. I hope you joking
I always wondered what was possible if we where giving the option for faster ram. Both camps usually place what's available and call it a day. But over time chips, speeds and quantity do change and by replacing it you could be looking at 25% up to 40% of memory bandwidth boost.
The upgrade of 3060ti and 3070 with GDDR6X showed that this card dont need faster ram, the performance gain is miserable while the consumption rise drastically making this cards wors than the standard versions with GDDR6

Why so much surprise??

It was made by a Russian over 2 YEARS ago:
It was done since forever. People used to mod the OG Xbox to use 128MB RAM so it can run some arcade titles that used that much memory (one of the arcade boards used OG Xbox hardware with 128MB RAM) and have better emulator compatibility.

Originally I wanted the 3080 10gb when it first launched but there was none to be found and I was presented with a 3090 instead, this gpu will run out of gpu power before running out of vram.. and this 3090 is pricey af … gotta be super careful when purchasing next one

Surely totally depends on res and settings. You don't need more than 8GB if you're using 1080p.

Can probably just tweak settings at higher resolutions to stay within it. Easier than modding hardware.

If Nvidia does not want to give you more VRAM officially, they could still help and fund one tech charity shop in each country where moders would be employed to solder more VRAM for you.

Wont nVidia just release some driver updates that refuse to allow for more utilization than intended SKUs? Also this could force their hand for stricter driver logic for next generation SKUs

For all those still arguing that 8GB is enough for a current gen card for modern games, the people present exhibit marked "3070" evidencing the contrary.

Great to see plenty of performance when the 3070 is properly configured just a pity that it would cost nearly as much as it's worth to get it how it should have been sold.

It's a load of tosh. He's not testing on real cards with lower vram amounts. If you tweak the settings (not even needed in a lot of games), at 1080p you'll be fine.
