Games journalists are delving into Final Fantasy XVI preview code at the moment, and Square Enix is firing up its publicity drive ahead of the game's launch on June 22. Game Informer has recently conducted an interview with members of "Creative Business Unit III," a very formal label for the development studio responsible put in charge of making a sixteenth entry in the mainline Final Fantasy series. FFXVI's director Hiroshi Takai and producer Naoki Yoshida fielded numerous questions for a feature-length cover story, and Game Informer has chosen to release several primer pieces - one article focuses on the studio's apparent cautious approach to creating (potential) DLC or extra campaigns for Final Fantasy XVI.

Takai and Yoshida state that the immediate focus is to simply get the game over the finishing line, and emphasize that there is already a sizable adventure contained within the base offering: "It's a one-off game. We're asking players to pay the full price for this experience, and so we want an experience that's going to equal the amount of money that players are going to be paying and we want them to have satisfaction equal to what they paid or even more than that." Previous Final Fantasy series installments have received a plethora of extra (paid and free) content, so plans could shift based on XVI's popularity and players' tastes - Yoshida states: "We have no idea if people are going to fall in love with Valisthea and fall in love with Clive's story and want to see more of the world and more of its characters...So while we always want to consider DLC or spinoffs or those types of things where you can learn more about the game, first we want to see if Valisthea and Clive are really things players around the world want to see more of and then make that decision."

Interesting, Square Enix is working on tons of live service games. I would of thought FF16 would be their #1 choice for additional content. Maybe they already got other future FF's all planned out. I know FF7 part 2 and KH4 are in the works so maybe they'll just be focusing on those. It's funny that they took the FF15 team though and made them make forespoken and that even has DLC they're still working on.

I think this is more a result of how poorly the DLC for FF15 was received. I don't mind one large expansion for these kinda games ala witcher 3 blood and wine or maybe some cosmetics for people who care about that sort of thing though.

Thank god. Historically no single player numeric game gets DLC the fam base would probably lose there minds.

I'm looking forward to this game, but not even a sequel to NieR Automata would sell me a PS5

I hope the PC version follows soon after :)

While Square Enix as a whole love live service model, Yoshida seems to have sufficient influence and independence to decide the path to take for his game, considering Square Enix still need the stable revenue stream from FFXIV, it is not surprising they don't bite the hand that feeds.

Not gonna buy a console just for one game. I almost did that with FFVIIR and got an used PS4, but then I got to my senses. I just need to avoid spoilers and even gameplay videos like I always do when waiting a PC port of an interesting game.

I've owned a Ps5 since about launch. I actually bought it for my wife so it's really just a bonus for me to be able to play timed exclusives.

Personally I play just older console games so no need for anything newer than PS3. Though I may get a Series S just because I have a lot of X360-era digital games on my account but I sold my 360 to a friend (the owner of my avatar's cat).

Pretty much this, FF15 badly needed the DLC, but the game I think was a flop overall, so they was chucking money at a failed project.

The way I interpret this statement is that they not going to commit early, if the game is successful we might get DLC, if it isnt, we probably wont.

I thoroughly enjoyed it but I can see why others might not have.

FF15 was a very unfinished game. Train derailed by act 9. Loading screen information talked about places you couldn't even go to (example: cave between desert and tundra where shivas super hot collassal boots is).
