The x1600 is far and away better. Hell, the 6800 barely compares to an x850. And only 128mb ????? Dont bother with that. Go 256 or better. Only thing nVidia has to compare to the x1000 series is the fx-50 series. And those cost alot more that ATi.

The fx5 series is way old and are about 50 dollars runing only 4 pipes. If your talking about fx55 57 and such thosre are AMD CPU's. The x1600 has 128bit memory, 6800 has 256, 6800 has all 16 pipes the x1600 only has 12 but makes up for it in clock speeds. I need some help here.

The 6800 at 16 pipes will smack around the X1600XT

Look up some reviews...

A 6800 with all 16 pipelines working would beat the living crap out of the x1600... and wtf is fx-50 series? :wtf: Geez ppl, were do you get these "facts" from?

ati's new series sucks :shadedshu

nvidia all the way :rockout:

& many would have thought that R580 would be good ... c'mon now G71 it's the star!

the last good stuff from ati was x850xt; x800xl was also good & x800gto2 were good; but now you get 6800gs & this one is the bomb!!!

If u think of it logicaly and ask urself this question , Why did Nvidia locked the "4 Pipes" There should be a reason. Unlockin them mite not be healthy . who knows .

Read this for game performance-

X1000 series really sucks at actual games
Especially when the AA is turned up.

Nvidia locked the 4 pipes because they needed some cards to fill in lower price segments so ati couldnt have that whole price bracket. Its cheaper to manufactuer 1 chip and lock up parts of it than to make a whole new chip

c'mon now, don't get all crazy :S ... ati can't beat nvidia at the moment

anyways ... here is mostly 'bout x1600 & 6800, so the final words:
6800gs is as good as 6800gt & this 2 are WAY better than x1600xt

ati sucks with their 128-bit cards ... this cards are for tetris, not today's games :banghead:

& here i have something for you, so you could end with such a BS:
XFX Geforce 6800GS d e m o l i s h e s Radeon X1600XT
http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=27653

and it's not a 5 or 10 % difference ... it's more like a 25 % difference

o yea, one more thing ... price; look at it - and than look what you get for your money from nVidia's 6800->7800 & what from x1000series - i hope you get it, 'cos it's really not that hard =)

I dont have a 6800gs or gt... The gs has 420mhz core and 12 pipes. The gt has 16 pipes and 350 core. MY 68000 ONLY has 128mb of memory and its ddr. NOT ddr3 like the other cards. I do have 16 pipes at 400mhz

I dunno what idiot they left to do the benchmarking, but my x800xl performs better than that x1600xt they were testing... And wtf... the x1600xt has 16 pipes and 256bit memory interface...I really don't understand where these figures are coming from that this website has...

EDIT:

Well, just realised i was thinking of the x1800xt... sorry.
(That things sweet! 512bit memory controller! *Drool*)

OUCH... 128bit memory interface... 12pipes... That's painfully crap.

My advice: get yourself a Sapphire X800GTO2, and mod it to the X850XT with the full 16 pipes. It'l outperform my card, and the x1600xt with ease ;)

still better than ati's x1600xt
most imporatant ... you have 256-bits

ati's doing cheap stuff - the ones with 256bit are 2 expensive

well you still have x800gto2 ... the only good thing from ati at the moment (it's old stuff, but anyway)

hehe - they could lock 4 more & still be better than ati for 250 $ :D

but really; why would they sell you so damn good GPU for just $250? ati can only offer crap for $250 ... nVidia has 6800gs at that range, that is WAAAAY better (with 16 pipes you get close to 7800gt - than that's already a GPU (6800gs/16pipes) that's better than x1800xl  )

I love it when they lock out pipes... they're easy to mod back into a really decent gpu for a fraction of the price of the unlocked chip!

i have the x800xl... But i wish i'd seen the x800gto2 first :( That card kicks ass when it's modded to x850xt, then overclocked with all 16 pipes!

Hey, one2, what card have you got, and what 3dm05 score did you get?? I'm comparing mine to everything!

EDIT:

WOOO, 100 POSTS!!

hehe, my pc is kinda old & i'm not buying anything new till Q2/Q3 2006 (i was hopping for new windows at the same time ... but i guess M$ will need some more time to finish Vista:ohwell: )
so im with the good old
P4 2'4ghz (no OC possible 'cos of original HP bios)
512 mb ram (getting +256 mb (don't really need an extra 512))
9800se 256mb (hopefully getting a 9800pro in a week) oh, i forgot 2 say: i can OC my GPU (only core) from 378mhz -> 391mhz :eek:
... things are kinda expensive here:rolleyes: (ATHLON 64 X2 3800+ costs $500, RADEON X1800XT 256MB = +$800, 6800GS 256MB = $350, and so one and on :ohwell: one more; new 9800pro STILL cost more than $200  )
