NVIDIA is reportedly rushing shipments of GeForce RTX 4090 GPUs to China in anticipation of expected export restrictions. We have already reported that NVIDIA might be canceling 5 billion US Dollars worth of orders. The US government will require an export license for shipping RTX 4090s to China, effectively restricting sales to the country. NVIDIA's add-in-board (AIB) partners are reportedly working at full capacity to produce as many RTX 4090 products for the Chinese market as possible before the potential restriction on November 17. While it remains unclear whether the export restrictions will ultimately be implemented, the anticipation of such measures has prompted NVIDIA and its partners to accelerate their production.

The Tweet that feeds this information is coming from Zed Wang, a well-known hardware leaker with historically accurate insights into NVIDIA's operations, who claims that "NVIDIA has been shipping tons of AD102 for AICs this week to manufacture as much RTX 4090 as possible before the original restriction date of RTX 4090 in China. It is still unclear whether the restriction will become true or not. But all AICs are at their full power in producing RTX 4090, regardless of that."

What I will never understand is how much is enough. They don't even need China to be more than viable. Where I live a 4090 has been 2300-2500 since launch so they are selling but people in Canada have none of the restrictions that Chinese people tolerate.

They've been gouging the professional markets for a few years and now AMD is coming online with their AI gpus, so their stranglehold on 80% margins is weakening. Also the market conditions are so bad all the big players that they were gouging the F out of are now developing their own AI chips, with Tesla already ramping production of theirs. Selling a $3K gpu for $40K is like crack cocaine to them and clearly they don't give a F.

Oh boy here we go. Getting personal LOL Touched a soft spot there I see NVIDIA fanboy. But just to entertain, I own NVIDIA and AMD gpu's. Great products, designed by their engineers. Awful ethics on both sides as companies, but NVIDIA is the nastiest imo. Took advantage of the mining days to skyrocket GPU prices and kept the prices comfortably there, up in the sky. What used to cost $600-700 now costs $2000 just because. Same for AMD. No real reason in the manufacturing process, or cost for parts to increase prices. There you go.

Absolutely nothing sketchy about covering your bases against government imposed restrictions. Anyone that is looking to protect their business would do the same. Apparently, the 4090 is that powerful, it bothered even the DoD - and it's still so hilariously cut down from the full potential of an AD102 product that features full amount of execution units and all cache that it's insane. If there is decisive proof that AMD never stood a chance this generation, it's the export restriction placed onto this gaming-grade, consumer graphics card.

Let me know if this time they don't tell buyers of X670E motherboards that their "bios chip is too tiny" and "if they want Zen 6, they should buy another. stop being cheap, because your early boards are all faulty and defective", just to U-turn once Intel butchers their product line to the point they can't sell $300 Ryzen 5 CPUs anymore. If the X370 farce (I just remembered, they also sent a cease and desist for AsRock for actually updating the X370 Taichi's BIOS with Zen 3 compatible AGESA against their will) and outright lie didn't show their true colors, then remember about the abortion that's the TRX40 platform (which never received Zen 3 despite the processor being finalized and ready to ship - they just prioritized Epyc to the max to maximize margins), their intentional withholding of dual CCD X3D CPUs because "customers don't really need a CPU that powerful" (read: it threatens our high-margin server business), and don't get me started on the Radeon line, especially us Vega FE owners. You'll never hear the end of it.

The export restriction applies to the GeForce RTX 4090, enterprise RTX 6000 Ada Generation and the new L40S accelerator as well. Not only the A100 and H100. Basically, all AD102-based products have been deemed too powerful for the Chinese to possess by the Biden administration. It's a largely symbolic restriction, of course.

Some of them will likely end up in Russia, yes. Just like plenty of Intel, AMD and Apple products. See, the Chinese do not abide by European demands and conduct business as usual with the Russians - there has never been any significant shortage of products in Russia due to trade restrictions, and it is widely known that Western sanctions were completely ineffective at eroding the RUB and preventing that products reach the hands of their population. If anything, it backfired due to the costs involved to Western companies all while that has visibly strengthened the BRICS trade bloc.
