My most anticipated release of the year, hell yeah. Finally we are getting the PC version together with the western console release, no more waiting. And since PH3 are making the port there won’t be an absolute shitshow that we had when NISA tried on their own with Lacrimosa. Sure, it was fixed after, like, two years… If by “fixed” we mean that PH3 redid the whole port from ground up.

Ys III on the SNES was fun. I really liked it and that's what I think about when I see Ys games.

I picked up Ys Origin on Steam a decade or more back and according to Steam I put in about 8 hours. I tried getting into the game, but I just didn't enjoy it and it didn't remind me of the good old SNES days....nostalgia is a bitch, huh? It could be the reason why the newer games never clicked with me.

Story-wise, Ys Origin is probably better experienced after having the context of Ys I and II. I didn't really enjoy the gameplay of I and II as much as the later games though. For better or worse, Falcom seems to like switching up the gameplay style of their games from time to time.

@ NIS America

I have the complete Ys series collection of GOG. I also have a few of the titles on console. I have none on Steam of Epic. I am far from alone.. Ponder as you will.

All of Ys games are on GoG, Trails too, so I am unsure what you are referring to here. I think publishers just use “on Steam” as a shorthand for “on PC” nowadays even when the games are available on other distribution services.

Yeah, Origin is really a payoff for I and II. Gameplay-wise, those older games are quite archaic nowadays, but still fun. And the final boss of I is probably the only time in all my gaming years when I was feeling like the developers hate me personally, holy hell was that borderline sadistic.

Well hey, look at that, it is!
Cool! Looking forward to it!

Perhaps, that doesn't mean it's ok. They need to state the platforms on PC it will be on. Epic, GOG, Steam or the Windows Store. It's not like it takes much effort to type that out...(@T0@st, that comment was not aimed at you, I'm aware this is a press release)

Should be noted that on Steam, there are usually two versions of most Falcom games nowadays. For example, there is this:
This has a release of 13 of March. This is NOT what the news post talks about. These are PC ports by CLE for Asian market and are by all accounts significantly worse than PH3 versions that come out with the western NISA release, which is this:

Ain’t licensing deals and multiple publishers just great and convenient?

Edit: This also creates a hilarious situation on consoles where, for example, for some godforsaken reason on PS5 there are two versions of Ys IX even in the west. There is the PS4 game running on PS5 that’s based on the Falcom version of IX with the 4K patch… and there is a native PS5 version that’s based on the PH3 PC port (to the extent that it even supports mouse and KB) that is, however, a different SKU and you DO NOT get an update from former to the latter if you own the PS4 game because… reasons.
