I kind of wish Synology would just sell their OS as an option. I mean, still sell their own NAS and Router solutions, just sell the OS too. Either that or a NAS OS dev team starts to use Synology DSM as a template for their design and get Synology apps to work on it. That is to say, like many others here, I really like Synology DSM but I don’t necessarily care for their underpowered expensive hardware,…..

Terramaster has been great with their hardware quality and the price.
Just forget the OS it comes with, throw a Proxmox in it and it easily builds you an integrated NAS with Jellyfin and all kinds of backup solutions.

You probably can already tell Synology won't do that; their software is the main reason their units are still selling.

Sure, Synology will likely never do that.

Ugreen has some very interesting NAS solutions being released and at reasonable prices in the kickstarter phase. Robust hardware that should run Proxmox, TrueNAS, UnRAID and the like if you wish.

If I were in the market for a new NAS I think I would buy one of their 6 bay or 8 bay options with
12th Generation Intel Core i5 (10 Cores 12 Threads).
