just for the record mine bombs at anything over 860 core and the memory starts to show artifacts at 2600..

it runs nicely at 855/1250.. just useing the ati overdrive thingy..

hard to tell to be honest but the fans dont speed up anywhere near where they could do so i assume its well within design temps..

i dont think they try to "over cool" the things.. after near burning my hand on the back of my 1900xtx when i first got it i had to re-think my ideas of whats "hot" and whats not.. he he

when u first boot up the fan runs flat out for a few seconds till the bios takes over and slows it down.. lets say there is oodles of fan power left for those that dont mind being deafened..

its quite a large fan and makes a loud whooshing as opposed to the high pitched whine my 1900xtx made..

under load its fairly quite and probably only at about 60%.. the twin slot cooling has plenty in reserve.. i dont think heat will be a problem ..

at those clocks with a amd 6000+ it makes 1140-ish in 2006 and just over 18000 in 2005..

a fast (clocked) intel system would probably show 13000-ish in 2006 and 24000-sh in 2005..

idle temps mean nothing to me.. its the load temps that matter but its now showing 47c at idle.. i assume the fans is pretty much just idling..

i think youre being optimistic on the 05 with core 2 duo score. Remember that it doesnt actually use the cpu score as a component.

i am not talking about the cpu score just that up at the frame rates 2005 runs the system speed does play a big part.. i dont think i am being optimistic to be honest.. the future mark series (2006) needs updating.. its no longer a good grafix card bench not at the default resolutions..

as regards the interesting bios lock at 860.. something new to me at least.. now i know its not bombing cos it on the edge i will run mine at 860.. mine ran at 860 okay but any attempt at going over produced an instant bomb.. i dont normally run that close to the edge..

ps.. just for the record when i said a fast intel system i meant clocked to 4 gig or so not straight out of the box..

could it have the same bios bug like the hd2600xt
try to jump straight to 880/890 core clock, and see if it works, i and everyonw with a hd2600 have to do that for oc

right a slight update.. it produces the instant black screen bomb as soon as the test your setting button is pressed.. this happens at anything over 860.. jumping past to 885 dosnt make any difference..

but i was wrong when i said mine was okay at 860 it it bombed halfway thru a 2003 3dmark run..

so i recon 855 is a nice stable speed for mine..

Quadcore 3.0ghz setup scores 18.1k. Now overclock the 3870, no way youd get close to 24k.

first it dont matter how many cores u have.. second i did say fast intel system.. like overclocked to 4 gig not running at 3 gig..

third my relatively slow amd system scores over 18000 so it dont say much for the intel quad score u quote does it.. he he

i can post a screen shot of my 18000 2005 score if u doubt it.. i base my assumptions on the fact a nicey clocked intel system is way faster than my poor old amd 6000+..

now if it aint i will be well pleased.. he he

dont use overdrive it locks all hd2k and all 38 series cards

OK, so at least your telling me it is a real number and not fabricated, so back to the original wow. That is serious power per $, as we already suspected. I sold my 1900's today, the new owner got a good enough deal on them, and I get to upgrade. To bad I have to wait about two weeks.

I don't know if this helps, but here's what my CCC says about software and stuffs...

I've just come from Nvidia, my 7900gto is now in it's box, and I don't have a clue what the current driver revision stands at.

i got a bigger percentage increase from my 1900xtx in 2006 than i did in 2005..

2006 at a score of 6500-ish (1900) is purely grafix card controled so i recon about 66% more grunt than a clocked 1900xtx at around the 3870 = 11000-ish score..

1900xtx 2006 score= 6600

3870 2006 score = 11140

same system..

the score in 2006 reflects things about right i recon from a gaming perspective....

the 2005 score is just for benching and no longer reflects true gaming power at its default resolution.. the frame rates it generates are way to high..

just been looking at the crysis game and aint sorted it yet but on high settings (not very high) at 1680 x 1050 i am getting low twenties.. i am only at the beginning thow.. the settings and resolution might not be runable if the action gets more hectic.. dunno till i get there..

it blasts thru cod 4 maxed out at 1680 x 1050but then again so did the 1900xtx..

the 18000 score in 2005 with the much higher frame rates is system governed which is why the 13000 i was getting with my 1900xtx dosnt increase as much..

so i am gonna say at least 60% more true gaming power at gaming frame rates than the 1900xtx which was no slouch..
