While Sony is celebrating the PS3's birthday with cake, Nintendo does not have time to celebrate. That is because they are too busy selling Nintendo Wii consoles at an astounding rate. Even a year after the console went on sale, Nintendo is having a very hard time keeping up with demand for their next-generation console. Nintendo Marketing Head George Harrison explains why it's so hard to keep up with demand.
It takes about five months for us to increase the actual monthly rate of production. We're at a rate now worldwide of about 1.8 million Wiis produced every month, and that's going to sustain itself until we get on top of this.
Harrison predicts that sales will taper off after the holiday season. You can read a full interview with Harrison here.

Well done Nintendo, they stuck to their strengths and did everything right this time. The Wii must be the most efficient selling console of all time with practically 100% made 100% sold at full retail value!

I agree.

Side Note: is that the same George Harrison from the Beatles?

Sales will only tail off after Xmas IF they dont upgrade the machine.

But if they add additional functionality, to attract the fence sitters, or to attract new buyers, then I think they can sustain their sales rates, maybe even improve them.

What to add?

1./ DVD playback
2./ Even better, and a KILLER if they do, Wii+, with HD-DVD

Go on Nintendo, do it!

Amy other suggestions about what Nintendo should add to the "Wii+"?

Its good for business but if people knew they were buyin a consle with the same exact graphics cards as the game cube people would be upset. nintendo updated the memory and clock speeds but kept the exact same video card from ati. The wii has a great concept but the hardware is weak the processor is solid but no where near as powerful as sony or 360 and they have already maxed out what the graphics can do due to the underpowered gpu in my opinion i wouldnt buy a system that was outdated i mean its just the gpu its not that important it doesnt do anything LOL (ugh common nintendo) oh and about dvd play back. nintendo plans to have a dvd drive soon so thats commin but they cant to hd dvd or blu ray there crap video card is not dhcp and can does not support playback. the card they have in the wii is a consloe version of the x800...... Ya and ringo star is the only beatle left harrison passed a few

Doesn't matter, for the enthusist out there, there is the PC, PS3 and Xbox, the WII is a user friendly platform, designed to be simple.

Alot of people LONG for a simple game again, one without all of the buttons and thumbsticks.

Take me, I would kill for an old fashioned 2d side scroll Donkey Kong Country on a new platform, al la viewtiful joe.

right but thats if you dont have a emulator or a dreamcast or modded xbox. i have 6 cds for my dream cast that contain every sega nes and super nes game ever created and its free so just depends i had a wii and its nice and easy to use just didnt like the games and graphics (no hd support kinda gay so it got dumped). so ya i know its for the enthusiast but common this system was outdated before they released it i just would have like to see the opposite nintendo is know for innovation and one upmaship of the other companies but ever since the 64 things have changed. maybe we well see thier new system.

well, theres the beauty of it, the wii is one machine, it plays wii games, old classics, and even gamecube titles, no need for a secondary emulator machine. While the hardware isn't as high end as the others, it's still able to produce some pretty titles, look at Mario Galaxy. All we need are a few developers who take some careful planning and we can see more games just as visually appealing. Personally, I'd only ever use a console for party games with friends, single player and online is still ruled by the PC.
