Iam stuck on weather to buy a system now or wait till mid janurary. I have listed several upgrades that I should get. " MOBO, CPU, RAM "

Its interesting...people say Q6600 over the Q9450??? why is that?? WHen the Q9450 comes out it will be 200 mhz faster and 4mb cache memory and 1333Mhz...would that not be the better choice??

Iam also unsure tho about the XTC 4Gig RAM either..its CL5-5-5-15 and the 2gigs RAM is CL4-3-3-15. I dont think getting 4gigs is right..I dont have vista so I think it would be a waste....but..if I got the 2gig deal..I could get another 2gigs once I get vista..I think that would be a better choice.

Obviously Q9450 will be better than the Q6600, but atm, pricewise, nothing touches the Q6600.

The Q6600 runs at 2.4GHz out of the box and if you get the G0 stepping (SLACR) model, like myself, you can overclock it to hell :rockout:

I'd go with option 3. P35 is a sweet chipset in ANY motherboard. Any more than 2GB of RAM and you either won't run in dual channel, or will require an x64 OS to use all the memory you bought. Core 2 Duo E6850 is sweet (3GHz Core 2 Duo kicks the crap out of anything AMD has to offer). I wouldn't go with quad-core at this point...no real benefit unless you run a bazillion multithreaded apps all at the same time.

Besides, spending less money on the modest/reasonable solution gives you more money to buy things like, you know, games

I HAVE VISTA right now but not installed. I am waiting till mid janurary to install Vista because my system would be a slow hog if I bothered with it now.

I will either buy the 4gig XTC CL5-5-5-15 or else buy 2gigs of CL4-3-3-15 now and buy another 2 in a few weeks after but it would be more expensive.

I dont plan on overclocking anytime soon but I do wish to have a system that CAN be OC. I do wish to OC when my system begins to get outdated...perhaps mid summer

Dont be such a chicken m8! Overclocking with the C2D/Q is foolproof and safe

Overclocking is good because you can buy a cheaper CPU and overclock it to the same (or better) speed then a more expensive one

(so why waste your cash on an expensive CPU to start with?)

Your into gaming so make sure you get a Quad because the games are slowly making use of them (ie Crysis) and you really want it to be running at 3.2GHz to avoid any bottlenecking of your 8800GTS

PS: try to get 2x 2GB of RAM instead of 4x 1GB

I think thats a very good idea! I will go onto komplett and see what OCZ have to offer and how much it would cost! also..will the P5K P35 be able to support them?

Ok so I went and had a check. The only OCZ 2gig chips I found are these:

Its around 50 Euro more than the XTC 4x 1gig chips I was looking at.

They are also faster

CL4-4-3-15 compared to XTC's CL5-6-6-15
So...would that be a better choice??

Dont me a chicken m8! Get a good aftermarket cooler for you C2Q (something like the Thermalright 120 with 2x 120mm fans, or an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro, if you want a cheaper cooling solution) and just go for it! I will offer any help I can m8

Yep, the extra money for the 2x 2GB sticks are well worth it
