Systemax Incorporated is currently in talks to buy the CompUSA brand, trademarks, e-commerce business and as many as 16 retail stores. Systemax analysts predict that the CompUSA brand name still has quite a bit of value, and can be turned around and brought to profitable glory. Systemax is willing to spend $30 million USD on this acquisition. Systemax has not yet announced what exactly they will do to make CompUSA a profitable enterprise.

I would love to see them here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area (as TigerDirect) alongside Fry's and Micro Center.

Now that would give a whole new meaning to Black Friday this year!

Does this mean they are bringing back closed stores, or are they just not-closing current ones?

As a Best Buy employee all I have to say is, "CompUSA.. how many times do we have to kill you before you stay dead?". :twitch:

But in all seriousness this "could" be a good thing for the consumer.. however I really hate TG so let's hope the service is better.

true - as I've been on a personal boycott of both Best Buy and Circuit City in this region for the last couple of years. Thanks to their mega-corporate prices, all the independent and enthusiast PC shops in the region have closed out. CompUSA was the last store that had decnet, non gouged prices with a great selection of mid-high range components.

Our store is surprisingly still open . . . perhaps if TD buys Comp, it'll be one of the few to stay <keeps finger crossed>!!! :rockout:

Not to mention the one here in Huntsville

They told us that their store was actually the number one CompUSA store in terms odf sales. I will take that with a grain of salt though. But this can be good news for the consumers indeed if CompUSA were to not close down then that may just mean the world to me and WarEagle.

The only thing that worries me is that this is rather late in the closing stage for CompUSA since they have been putting everything in their stores on sale right now and discounting it by as much as 30% last time I checked with also a minimum of 10% off So in other words its between 10 and 30% off on everything last I checked

same here - our locality has also been lowering prices a bit on some things - plus the discount. I can also vouch that they're willing to sell display models if they no longer have said item in stock (how I got my Stacker).

Hopefully, though, the few stores that do remain open - if TD does take over, I'd figure they'll probably clear out whatever inventory is left, or hold on to it. Perhaps with TD brandishing the company, we might see an even better selection of goods in-store. That would be great, IMO.

I just don't want to be forced to only buy things online. I'm usually willing to pay the slightly extra cost of being able to pick up an item in store, and not have to wait 3-7 days for a delivery - and then should you find out the part is bad and have to send it back . . . But, screw paying BB or CC prices. All their high-end components are way over priced.

so wait, Systemax turned into TigerDirect how? ::HAHA:: You are right effmaster, I would be ecstatic, but kind of pissed. I want them to lower their price to 80% so I can rape them on a kick ass laptop and mobo (be it ::gasp:: intel or AMD) but all in all, Id like them to stay open.

Buying good priced hardware locally? Blashphamy, will never happen. BestBuy is TERRIBLE for computer components.. last time I was there they had 250gb HDD's for 250$, *^$( that lol Antec Tru-Power Trio was 150$ as well.

Yeah Best Buy is generally way overpriced and people will more often times than not buy into that kind of stuff.

But BB does occasionally have some good weekly sales or even trhree day sales.

Heck I bought a 120 GB portable Harddrive somewhere around the time of Spring and Summer 2007 for only $69.99 or $79.99 I cant remember the exact price but it was like only a three day sale I do beleive. But generally speaking I wouldnt recommend going to Best Buy or CVircuit City unless its for really cheap movies or really good weekly deals because on normal pricing CompUSA would rape the others asses generaly

agreed - and even then, you can find better deals on movies, music, appliances, etc elsewhere.

2 examples I've used before as to price differences (and this is about 4 months ago, at this point). The PNY XLR8 DDR2 800 CAS 4 2GB kit that I bought was $150 at CompUSA; BB had the same exact kit on the shelf for $349 :twitch: . Same time there, I saw a VisionTek HD2900XT 512MB on the shelf at CompUSA for $359; CC had the same exact model for $499.

nope - same exact models and specs. It might just be this region - but BB and CC gouge prices on mid/high and high-end components. It's partly why I refuse to shop at either store for any reason; asides, their low-end catering to a majority of customers that don't know any better has driven every single independent PC shop in the region out of business - and for a city that has 450,000 citizens (and not including the populations of the 6 neighboring cities), that's pretty sad. You'd expect at least a few, but they can't stay open any more than a month . . .

Well I guess me and WarEagle can be thankful that Gigaparts is still open here in Huntsville. It's looking like it will take alot more than what Best Buy and Circuit City are doing right now to get rid of them.

at least y'all have a different choice :(

Sadly, if I want to continue my personal boycott, I'll now have to buy all my hardware online - when it came down to it, I was willing to pay a little extra at Comp than have to wait 3-9 days, hope the part isn't damaged or defective, and all that crap, y'know?

Keeping my fingers crossed, that one of our two regional stores might survive the cutting block . . .
