It reminded me of a mistake I made, I was just looking at the instructions for the arctic cooling freezer7 with all the plastic on, but the piece of plastic covering the copper bit with the thermal paste fell off, and I left a very slight fingerprint before noticing (to my horror!)

Will this seriously affecting cooling etc.? Because then I seriously will need to use the crappy stock



Edit: Um what's a methylated spirit? Sorry, I wish I knew the different types of alchohol that are out there.. all I knew was that it needed to be "pure" or something?

A fingerprint can and will effect temps, but to what extent I am unsure.
As for the cleaning agents, its all about the alcohol content IIRC.
Higher Alcohol % = Less impurities left behind after the alcohol evaporates.

Just wandering whats the minimum %? If I need to I would go to a chemist to get some good high pure alchy ^^
Im wandering if I could clean a surface with vodka?

Okay I installed everything.. I hope I didnt damage anything with my clumsiness..

(Found the ACF7 quite hard to put in place securely..) and lotsa other problems but I think I've sorted em out for now..

Well, Methylated Spirits is 95% ethanol
I dont think alcoholic drinks would be usable, as I think they probably have some other ingredients that would leave a residue or at least stickiness. Preservatives or whatever.

the type of alcohol to use is Isopropyl aka Rubbing alcohol and 70% is the min, but you can find up to around 95% at any walgreens/riteaid type of store.

EDIT: if you go to clean ur cpu/HSF use some coffie filters and qtips, i used 91% only because it was the best i could find, and it worked without a problem.

Alrite cheers guys, thats made things a lot clearer in my mind, I'm gonna try to run the computer soon when my PSU and XP arrived

I'll probably need to clean and re-apply when I have some time (Probably get some MX-2 or AS5 to add to it)

Here's hoping that none of my components are DOA and are not damaged by myself when putting it in!
