i am looking to set up water cooling on my system and i am after peoples opions on the matter, custom v's kit, ect.
(i rather a kit because it less mucking around and i would suck ass at settign it up and maybe because it would be a neater set up¿)

what it will need to cool is as follows

CPU > Q6600 G0
GPU > 8800 GTX

i am likeing the idear of the 4 following kits

Swiftech H20-120 Compact
Swiftech H20-220 Compact
Swiftech H20-220 Ultra
Zalman Reserator 2

ony catch would be:

1: parts will need to be avilable in australia
2: it will be running in a p180 case
3: ambiant temp is aprox 20c but summer it can be 35c plus

Deffinitely the Switftec Ultra 200. It's got a pump separate from the block unlike the compact version.

I have just currently bought a Zalman Reserator 2 for my new HTPC, just waiting on the case. I'll let you know how it goes as I will be cooling a E6600 and a 320MB 8800GTS.
Go to PC case gear and build your own I reckon.

the mcp655 pump is $89 @ newegg, probably you'll find much better prices for all that gear elsewhere.

Check out these kits as well - made from the best parts with some interchangability

thanks guys, you have given me some good idears, but i think i may have decided pn the 'Zalman Reserator XT' with the 'Zalman vrZM-GWB8800-GTX VGA Water block' for the gpu

(i decided this on performance and mostly portability... i will be driving upwards or 1300 kms in the comming weeks when im on holidays so it needs to be able to survive :) )

from what i have seen online this should beat my thermalright ultra 120 by aprox 10c and ive seen in the same review a 8800 ulrta running at 50c load :)

ive been working hard this summer and earning some good $$$ so i may as well live a little!!!

or am i making a huge mistake???

For that price you should have gone custom. 500.00 is outrageous IMHO. The other downside to this product is it only has 1 140MM fan, which means that it probably has a smaller radiator. I honestly do not think you will get the true benefits of water cooling out of this rig, especially if your cooling more then 1 component. The other downside to this is everything is Aluminum..if you built custom you would go with all copper radiator and blocks. I seriously see you upgrading/modding this box not long after you get it.

3/8 inch Tubing = guessing 10.00

3 120MM Fans = 15.00 - 60.00

1 Rheostat = 15.00

You could either install all this stuff internal, or buy 20.00 in plexi and make a external case.

Total cost for kickbutt all Copper system, that will perform way better then any pre-made system. This will cool. CPU, NorthBridge and Video Card

$375.80 - $420.00

I'm currently looking at installing water cooling in my Antec P180 this year. As I have the same issues with availability of good gear here in South Africa, my personal choice is the Swiftech Apex ultra kit. Add their stealth block for the 8800, and it will outperform the Zalman. (based on my research)

Also, the entire kit can be mounted on and/or in the case, which makes moving it MUCH easier. The support from Swiftech has been brilliant, and they will answer any queries on their forums.

It's more work to install, but I believe a better purchase.:D

(I have nothing against Zalman, as I use their products)

Australia is a pain in the arse for water cooling products. I have bought alot from overseas such as FrozenCPU and Performance PC's. By the time you pay for shipping it is just as expensive! :wtf:

That is a good point Dia01, I guess I didnt notice that he was from Australia. Not sure what the shipping would work out to be...I am not doubting you, but it seems odd that there isn't a shop in Australia. i wonder why that is?

Purchase online at Performance PC's or FrozenCPU. I'd have to say I'd rather purchase in Australia but the variety is not available and is as expensive. I've never had a problem with Performance PC's. One bit of advice, customs seem to take longer to release items with liquid. :banghead:

PS: If anyone knows of a decent variety site in Australia PM me!

thanks guys so much, looks like the smart option is to go custom... the only things i will have trouble with is getting he parts in Australia and actualy installing the thing ..

so i dont have alot of room to do things... my pc is set up on a card table (lol) and the rig is sitting on the floor where people walk right past it (thats what you get for living with your grandmother, helping her out).. but im sure i can sort things out

I use the thermaltake 760i with the zalman full coverage block on the 8800 and a black ice gt stealth 360 rad it it works fine at 3.8Ghz and 8800GTX @660 core 1050 ram. Cpu reaches 58c full load and vid reaches 55c in Brisbane (Summer no Air Cond). Pc Case Gear in Melbourne also has some new watercooling gear from D TEK and Alphacool.

id say for $500 custom all the way... my dream custopm water cooling rig will cost me ~$500!!!! (majority of the components are swiftech, bloody good brand expecially when it comes to performance)

id probably say pccasegear.com.au all the way. love that site. i think they have a flat postage of $10 for victoria... & most stuff i usualy buy i only get charged like $12 postage. have some good stuff 2!

if you cant find stuff there go to staticice.com.au...

as for putting it together google watercooling 101 or somethign like that, im sure u'll find many informing articles.....

i soooooooooo wish i had $500 for my dream LCS

once again thanks for all the input im prity sure i will be going the Swiftech H20-220 Apex Ultra Watercooling Kit and i am not to sure on the gpu block i shoud use (see link below for my 3 options)

edit: the radiator will be mounted externaly with two 'quick connect' connectors for easy removal and transportation ... i may even do the same for the GPU block so i can remove it from the loop and install a low power vid card for when i do extended torrenting

http://www.pccasegear.com/prod5600.htm
http://www.pccasegear.com/prod5450.htm

i have 2 more questions that i cant find any good answers for online:

1: positioning of the reservoir (dose it need to be higher then the pump, water blocks for proper flow/easy filling?)

2: dose the flow direction of the water have a major effect of the performance of the set up? (example Pump > CPU > GPU > radiator > Reservoir > Back to Pump)

i cant remember the best way to set it up... as i said b4 try watercooling 101.
its recommended to have the fill point (/reservoir) at the peak of the loop though. so the air can easily escape by going up as air usually does!

also generally the pump will have a measured head (the amount it can push up)
i'd say if its convenient, mount the pump higher than sitting on the bottom of the case, so it doesn't have to do as much work. but generally if i remember correctly the swiftech kits pump has head around 3m, so no problem there.
when i get my setup im putting the pump in the 5.25" drive bays & throwing the rad right above it with new holes in the top of the case.
should make the LCS easier to look after! (.... hmmm..... i just thought... my rad is gonna b the peak of my loop.... guess i'll b bleeding it before i put it in the top!!!)

as for your pics.... personaly i wouldn't go with any of em. mainly coz i'd look for a more futur safe option (1 that i will have 2 spend less money on when i upgrade)... but then again i have a different vid card. but out of the 3 i'd personally go with #2 the price is generally made up for by the performance.

the main reason i wouldn't go with the 1st option is it appears to have less surface area for heat dissipation. unlike the swifteck block that has its award winning pin design in it.

just my opinion though. buy what u will!

good luck with getting a descent setup & i hope it makes a good performance boost (if u plan 2 overclock) cheers :toast:

Benchmark Scores They're pretty good, nothing crazy.
i tried so many variations with my watercooling kit... what ive noticed is that it is easiest/best:
resevoir is above pump (but not necessary as this is mainly for filling) - for this i highly recommend a drive-bay resevoir... also... it is best when the water, right after the RAD(at its coldest), hits the CPU first and then the GPU, then back to the RES (so RES>PUMP>RAD>CPU>GPU) this gives your loop the most cooling power. Ive tried three other combinations and this works the best for me... also - 90 degree (bent) compression fittings, no matter how cool they look, are complete shit and cripple your loop. The worst is aluminum and copper in the same loop which leads to some heinous, yet subtle corrosion. And one final thing there is negligible difference between 3/8" and 1/2" ID tubing, so i would go with the 3/8" (you will thank me when you get your new mobo and are too lazy to diassemble your loop).

Fans are a BIG deal... and make an even bigger impact on temps. Get high quality fans from the beginning (like schythe, aerocool, or silverstone) to save sanity later.

EDIT: I have the mcp655 pump... its is silent, and has good pressure, but i dont know if it has enough balls for a setup like the one you want.

I've seen the MCP655 driving some massive loops;
CPU, Northbridge, Southbridge, Ram, 2x HD, 2x VGA, 2x rad.

With 3m head capability, it's probably the most recommended pump I've seen.:respect:

(FYI; The Laing D5 is the exact same pump)

Mate, that pump will be more than sufficient. It has a flow rate of ~1200 LMP. I am using the P500 Thermaltake at ~500 LMP and it works fine. Q6600 @3.4 idle 32c Load 48c Ambient 25c. Try the Laing DC5 Vario 12V pump (same pump but with variable speed).
