I wouldn't call it an investment. What happens in 2 years when the player dies? Where are you going to get a new one? You are going to pay out of the ass for one, or just junk all of the now worthless discs.

Buying a technology when it is dying just because it is cheap isn't an investment.

Whoever said that it wont work 2 years from now? I have an old VCR at my house that still works fine that has never gone out on me yet. This one will not be any different

i think he means the fact the you wont be able to buy any movies for it :) there are just a handful of hd dvd at the moment...and non in the future

Where can I get one of these HD DVD burners? :p All kidding aside, Id love to get my hands on a cheap BD burner. However, media prices and the burners themselves arent anything cheap or impressive enough.

Not necessarily true. There are still good quality companies out there. And Toshiba is one of those reliable companies out there too. In Consumer Reports Magazine a couple years ago. Toshiba ranked very high on reliablity with their HD TVs staying in good condition. I trust Consumer Reports Magazine very much.
