Double check those temps with ANOTHER utility. Speedfan is notoriously unreliable with some chipset combinations. Try Everest. If STILL high, then sounds like the CPU cooler needs checking. Not fitted properly, plastic protection sleeve still on it, etc. etc. Maybe an even more crazy problem, like fan polarity wrong, and spinning backwards. That would be very inefficient. Also check the computer case that there is free airflow both in and out of the case.

it's the board.. the board is reporting bad temperatures to your os.. try using thermal diodes or temperature sensors. also try resetting the board.. though i doubt that it'll fix anything.

What proc is he running and mobo? Is he overclocking? If its that high (which I seriously doubt) then it would have fried already. Seems to me its reporting something in error.

your cpu does look a little hot and the 12v seems low, confirm those voltages with a multimeter and check the cpu fan, it may be running too slow causing the overheating.

You said ASUS mobo?
if the smart Guardian is for ther DFI un install it first. Than get someone that knows how to check the voltages with a multi meter.

Alright, ask him to pull off the hsf and take a good, clear pic of the CPU.

IF the core on it looks like it has changed color, or has gotten reddish bronzeish, then chances are, it got fried.

another thing, most people use celcius for temps, when you get a chance change from F to C.

Did you uninstall the Smart Guardian yet? (the crazy temps are probably a software prob)

Also did you change the CPU cooler? if so what paste did you use?

Hmm... to answer your quesiton...I dunno..if it's getting that hot, I wouldn't really want to risk it.

Did he apply some thermal greese when he installed the new HS? If so, what kind? How much?

Yes he did.He took it in for service some time ago after it wouldnt power up and they replaced the power source, hes questioning wether ts the right PSU since the wiires seem extra long on this PSU and if it could be the cause of the prob.We JUST installed smartguardian,it has nothing to do with the prob.

Probably not. I'm sure having longer cables on the PSU wouldn't have any thing to do with it....

Unless he's doing cable management, then it would be a issue...

Something really seems amiss here....At those temps I would lay my eyes on that cpu before firing it up again. Check for any discoloration and let us know what you see. Also, really need to check the volts......

I'm hoping and thinking something is askew in the reporting of the temps....
