your 2,8ghz p4 is a huge bottleneck for hd3850

mostly in low resolution benchmarks not that much in the average higher resolution game.. its an upgrade that is still well worth doing for someone who wants to extend their system life..

P4 or not it will still play most games in a reasonable fashion.. not much good for supreme commander thow.. but that is a one off..

Lol! yeah, thanks, I think I can connect my USB HD-DVD drive to watch some of the movies I bought before the $hit hit the fan for that format, I will also get a BD-ROM for blu ray movies :rockout:

What about you? Are you getting the Sapphire card, or are you still waiting for the GeCube card?

Cheers on the cooler choice mate, that's exactly the one I picked! Just checked my order status and I should get mine around wednesday or thursday! :toast:

Geez, it seems for now Sapphire is the only way to go, I wonder why Powercolor and GeCube jumped the gun and announced the release for their cards sooooo long ago, guess they are still waiting for official driver support once the 8.3 cats are released??:confused:

Who cares about that now...something is seriously wrong. I just played my first real game, Call of Duty 4, and I'm getting fame rates that are literally half of what I got on my x1950, between 17 - 23.

Drivers drivers drivers... dont panic. You've nearly DOUBLED performance on 3DmarkX... so there must be a driver/DirectX conflict with some games.

I hope these tips arent TOO obvious:

1./ Strip machine of all ATI drivers, use cleaner
2./ Install latest compatible drivers (I think its 8.2 with a hack... check internet). Dont install CCC. Just the drivers.
3./ Make sure display properties turned up to FULL hardware acceleration.

In games, make sure you reconfigure the video settings. And check they are the same as before, ie. resolution, FSAA etc.

Good luck. We are all looking on with interest...

Thats not bad at all!!!... the benchmarks are testing the GPU mainly, not the CPU... so at 7724 vs 8060 that's only 3.5% performance loss being on AGP vs. PCI-E. And that's probably nothing to do with AGP, but the system chipset Nforce 3 vs 410 and memory speeds, AND your overclocked GPU (compared to the AGP version).

I used driver cleaner before I installed but there were a few failed attempts before the drivers "took" I will try it again, other two suggestions check out.

I should mention that both ATI and Omega drives refused to install. The only ones that works was the included CD.

I'm about try Bioshock now...

edit - I'll try uninstalling CCC as well

2nd edit - Bioshock is MUCH smoother. Guess this is a semi isolated problem COD4 plays terribly and Source has identical to last card.

>> google for the driver hacks to get 8.2 to work on AGP. Its something to do with editting the script that contains the device ID. Its a very easy hack once you know how.

Apparently the included CD drivers are not the best... 8.2 is MUCH better.
