My X2 couldn't play Gears DX10 on low...

Then again, I was on Cat 8.1s and 8.2s.

Definitely something wrong with that, It ran maxed at 1920x1200 on my 2900XT and with good frame rates

I knew this was coming when I saw a 3850 on newegg that went down to $140 after a rebate. I hope $159 is the true base price for the 3870. The updated Diamond versions come with an incredible heatsink similar to the Ice turbo that covers everything except for the first ram chip on the top of the card. It OC's to 900/2800 on the stock heatsink!!! Get that for $159 & I swear you'll be in love :rockout:

Definatly something wrong lol

If cod 4 can play smooth with everything high and look and play tons better than a 360s version {which i have both}
Then gears should be the same its probably bad drivers.

The card has lots of potential the drivers are not doing it justice so far.

i would give ya about 150 for it ;)
but seriously why would the make a 2600x2?
wouldn't it make sense to make a 2900x2 over a 2600?
wouldn't you use the flagship card?
one last question, WHY HAVEN'T WE HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT THING BEFORE TONIGHT?

also i wanna see some benchmarks

I've seen pictures. The card doesn't look unfamiliar. I just had no idea that it was coming out now.

That thing been out for ages & it was a huge flop. Its even slower than a 512mb 2900xt. Its driver issues were off the charts & cat 8.3 doesn't even support it so ATI has completely given up on it.

VisionTek . . . doesn't surprise me - they're one of ATI's bitches. Mid-tier, IMO. They put out decent stuff that one can usually find cluttering the shelves of Best Buy and Circuit City - a bit overpriced, considering they don't really cater to the 'enthusiast' market like some other ATI licensed brands do. They do work side-b-side with ATI a lot of the times, I know they completely took over all warranty coverage of ATI's X1600, X1800 and X1900 series. But, if ATI puts out a flop, VisionTek will continue to release it for months after everyone else has forgotten about it.

Let's not get too off-topic here. If we want to talk about the 2600X2, we have a new thread.

Whenever one of you sees the price drop somewhere, please let me know :toast:

When people say card X beats card Y I always want to know by how much.

If one is doing 42FPS in a game I like to play and the other 45, yet the lower performing card is much less, I'll probably get it.

I tried an X2 and while it could beat OCed HD 3850 Crossfire @ 760|2038 often it wasn't by that much. Of course that was on a mere 1680x monitor though. When I got the HD 3850s they were a total of 310usd for both, and the X2 was 450usd. I couldn't justify keeping it.

I kinda feel sorry for guys that bought HD 3870s for 250usd and up considering the coming price drops.

Like others have said, I am going to wait for the true next gen before I move off the OCed 3850s in my AMD rig.

Now looks like a great time to get one or two 3870s if you haven't upgraded to anything recently. If the price falls on the X2 as well then an X2 plus an HD 3870 might be a very good option for people on extreme resolution monitors.

so whats an extreme resolution monitor by todays standards..??? 30 inch plus.. ???

or to put it another way.. what would be considered a normal resolution to game at..

mine is 1680 x 1050.. i could drop it to 1400 x 900 without really noticing a quality degrade.. apart from crysis one 3870 card is good enough for me..

are my standards considered low.. ???

trog

ps.. course the real problem with this multi gpus stuff is.. when it works it works a treat.. when it dosnt work its worse than useless.. performance drops..

I've only found if crossfire doesn't work, you don't see any performance improvement over running just one card - I think the performance decrease stems from the fact that with most chipsets, a multi-GPU setup lowers the PCIE BUS as soon as a second card is installed, and you end up running x8/x8, x16/x4, etc. Systems that can run x16/x16, IMO, don't see that much of a performance decrease if a game doesn't properly support 2 cards.

Anyhow, I tend to game at 1440x900, as my monitor can't really do anything over that. If a game is to stressful for my current system, res will be lowered to 1280x800 or at the very lowest 1024x768 . . . exact resoultion sometimes depends on how well a game will scale to fit the screen.

But, considering the wide array of 4:3, 16:9, 16:10 monitors currenclty in use, 1280x1024 is still considered the average, and I think it'll still be a couple of years before we get away from that standard.

But, considering the wide array of 4:3, 16:9, 16:10 monitors currenclty in use, 1280x1024 is still considered the average, and I think it'll still be a couple of years before we get away from that standard.

i find it can mess up performance quite badly.. for example running the in-game benchmark in world of conflict.. my score drops from 57 fps.. to 43 fps.. crossfire makes things worse big time..

in crysis it makes thing better.. no problem.. 44 fps up to 59 fps..

conflict denied ops.. running fraps i see my fps drop from 60 fps tp 40 fps.. i wouldn really notice without running fraps for test purposes thow..

with gears of war.. the game crashed after the movie intro.. fraps never got its chance..

with the 3marks i see a big gain.. with all the older games i see a big gain..

but i do see a drop with some newer games.. i am pretty sure it can mess up games that are not optimized for it.. or the ati cats aint been tweak as yet for the game..

i dont think its pci-e bus problems else it would affect more than the odd game.. crysis for example being the most demanding would suffer.. it dosnt..

to be honest i havnt found one single game it simple dosnt help with.. in other words one card performing exactly the same as two.. it either helps or hinders is my experience..

basically i think both game and ati drivers have to be tweaked for it.. if they aint one card can actually do better than two or three..

my crossfire default setting is off.. it gets turned on for crysis or benching the 3dmarks.. he he

i am running XP.. vista might differ..

not sure about Vista - I still refuse to install.

I know it makes a big difference in Crysis, as well as STALKER. I've also seen massive gains in FEAR, Doom3, and a few other games . . . I haven't really run across anything that it hurts, yet.

I did notice a major difference in 3m06 GPU scores (sm2.0/3.0) when I went from my 975x chipset board to this X38. Before they only ran at x8/x8, now x16/x16. CPU score is massively different due to the quad, but the GPU scores don't change much anymore.

so whats an extreme resolution monitor by todays standards..??? 30 inch plus.. ???

or to put it another way.. what would be considered a normal resolution to game at..

mine is 1680 x 1050.. i could drop it to 1400 x 900 without really noticing a quality degrade.. apart from crysis one 3870 card is good enough for me..

are my standards considered low.. ???

ps.. course the real problem with this multi gpus stuff is.. when it works it works a treat.. when it dosnt work its worse than useless.. performance drops..

2560 X1600 res here and once you hit res this high you never go back, and you allkso dont need AA at res this high hahaha , this is when you really need Duel card soloutions as well ,single card soloutions just dont cut it.
