600 watt powersuply

Everything is pretty much new including power supply. Just swapped my kit from a DS3 to the P5B E. On the DS3 score in 3dmark 6 was 13800 averaging between 40Fps and 100Fps, Ati tool 3d window would average around 1100 Fps. Now on the P5B E the card sits around 25 Fps in 3dmark6 and 400 Fps in the ati tool 3d window.

Don't know what i'm doing wrong, maybe somthing in the bios? When i initiate vidio intensive software my power stays constant no droop so i'm sure its not a lack of power. 600 watts should be well enough for this set up + can't remember the model but i paid 100 bucks for it.

Can anyone help?

I'm new to the PB5 E so it may be a bios issue?

Please help? Game play at these FPS is rubbish!

Install the latest BIOS for the P5B-E. Also make sure you have the latest drivers for everything, don't use what came on the CDs. Make sure the power cable is connected to the card correctly, but if that was the case you should get a warning. Run GPU-z and post a screen shot for us.

And ignore the idiotic fanboy.

No need to start a flame war. This thread has nothing to do with ATi. You have been warned.

Could it be a heat issue with the GT as its an aftermarket cooler, improperly applied Thermal paste maybe ?, but as newtekie said drivers/bios is a good place to start.

Leaving the flame aside, That drop is insane. Those are 8600gts numbers. It have to be the bios. That card couldn't have took that big of a hit from a board upgrade :banghead: Whatever bios entry did that needs to be locked -forever.

Oh I see, Asus did fix that mess in the newer boards, they have locked pci clocks which are hiddened even from the bios.

If you canged the PCI-E clock to 33.33, yes it could be a problem, since it is supposed to run at 100. So your PCI-E slots would only be providing 1/3 the bandwidth.

Actually locking the pci primer screws up your OC'd cpu settings. The synchronization is automatically set in the newer boards so you can't mess it up. If you set your pci-e bus speed to 33.33, which is impossible to do because it won't underclock under 100 from the bios, I promise you your pc wouldn't even boot.

Slightly off-topic: I was doing some testing with an ASUS Crosshair board just a couple of months ago, equipped with 2x 8800 Ultras. I flashed the motherboard BIOS to the latest version (0904 at the time), and then the 3DMark06 scores dropped by HALF. I was absolutely puzzled, triple-checked all BIOS settings, tried 4 different video card drivers (old, really old, new, beta), nothing worked... I dug around on the ASUS forums and found that others had the same problem... I had to flash BACK a few versions (to 0604), and then my speeds doubled (back to normal) again...

It seems there's a new BIOS for the Crosshair, 1103, which hopefully addresses this... Still, it makes me question ASUS' testing methods :)

Did your cpu overclock change as well? Sometimes pci and fsb can be tied together, generally it's not and it's not a problem to lock pci to 33.33 mhz. Anyways, that's where that defiantly should be, that's one frequency that you defiantly do not want to screw around with. I believe it can cause things to go crazy...forget exactly what happens, but just stuff basically.

It's pretty old but it still applies today:

http://www.overclockers.com/pci/

Asus in all their weirdness still ties the fsb & pci together in some boards & makes them impossible to change in others. I used to set the pci to 33.33 in the older Asus boards until the p5e which made for one hellish night of OCing, but that option is mysteriously gone in my x38

So i've finally settled for a practical overclock of 8x430=3.440Ghz @ 1.49v

I've also turned C1E back on so the processer isn't working hard constantly.

At this FSB and multiplyer is it ok to leave the pci set at 33.33?
