Max safe volt for Windsor core?

Whats the Max safe volt for AM2 Windsor core on decent air cooling?

I took my 5600+ windsor from 2.9 to 3.1 at default voltage 1.35V. Upto 227*14=3178 at 1.375V. Anything more than it is unstable. Core temps at full load (Sony vegas movie making) is around 58C.

Using a Coolermaster Vortex 752 for now. Got it for temp use and going to get the Opty dual-pipe cooler if needed.

at 3178 idle 34,29 to 58,56. These are core temperatures. Case is Ultra Microfly case. Mobo is crappy Jetway.

1.425V is ok?

Well I would never try and put my 5200+ over 1.4500 volts so try not to pass that, but it really matter on how well your HeatSink effectivly cools your CPU. If its a killer Heatsink you have nothing to worry about, if its a stock or crappy one than I would rather be safe than sorry.

1.4V its stable at 250 * 13 = 3250. Played BF2142 demo for about 45 minutes.

Your F3 Windsor pwns my F2

I need 1.5V to hit 3GHz and thats it, no further clocking.

I would say 1.5V is safe as long as you don't plan to keep your cpu for more than 3 years, and that Mini Typhoon can keep the cpu under 55C

My bro's 3800 X2 skt 939 gets to 85 degrees celcius on core 0 and 65 degrees on core 1. This is at 1.45 volts with a Zalman CNPS 9700. :laugh:

I think that it's a problem with the die temp reader. I've heard about similar problems with the Windsors.

Even Windsors are broken? I thought it was brisbanes. Damn it thats the reason I picked the F3 version even tho its 90nm

Thanks. But that mini typhoon is used on my main machine which will be retired sometime this year end. This machine is for test purposes and do all the recording etc. Currently running with an Cooler Master Vortex 752 low profile heatpipe cooler.

Actually it is not Orthos stable at that frequency. Ran for about 4 hrs and then failed. Is that ok or should I lower 2 numbers and run for around 8 hrs? But played games well for around 45 minutes.

As Wile E says, 1.5v should be fine. With an AC freezer 64 Pro though it's iffy. I use coretemp to find out what my temps are, it takes the temperature of the core (tjunction) and not the socket (tcase) so it will read higher temps than your other programs, somewhere around 15c. I like to stay under 55c in coretemp cause I keep mine at full load 24/7 but if you don't have something going on that considerably loads the processor a lot, 65c load should be OK

Orthos failed @250*13. So reduced to 238*13.5. I upped the voltage to 1.425 but not stable. But can play BF2/BF2142 for hrs. Should I worry about or should I raise the voltage even more?

What does LDT and NB voltage do? Any boost?

The memory is still under the rated speed.

Earlier I was using 2 x buffalo select sticks and 2 x crucial sticks. Removed the crucial and added 2 more same type buffalo. That makes a difference. The sticks goes to DDR2 722 @1.91v. Might go more.

Also the board needs several clearing and resetting of bios and it seems to be stable. The board doesn't like any of the cpu temp monitoring programs. So disabled all. Now with C'n'Q the board is at 232*14 at 1.4V.

Orthos fail in about 10 minutes but all other programs seem to be stable. Video compiling, games everything I throw at it.

Do I need to care about Orthos?

Core temps with occasional checking seems to be around 58C under full load.

Just for reference- I have my 5600+ @ 3.3ghz @ 1.47v using 13x 254. I run it 24/7 this way and it is orthos stable. I could get it to fail at 1.4v, so I kept upping. It may run stable at 1.45v, so you could try that. I never see temps above 58c at 100% load with my zalman 9700.

I might have to buy a better cooler. But because of the space limitations in my box I have to go with low profile CM. Actually it does the job pretty well.
