AMD Releases Catalyst Hotfix for AGP Cards

ATI has released a hotfix that addresses the following issues when Catalyst 7.9 or higher version is installed on AGP cards:

After installing Catalyst 7.9 or higher an error is received launching DirectX based games. The error indicates that Direct3D Failed to Initialize or similar.
In Vista your Experience score will drop to 1.0.
The DirectX Diagnostic tests will fail in both XP and Vista.

I could have swore that in the 8.3 drivers they had fixed this -- it even said so in the release notes. I've been using regular 8.3 on an old x700 AGP card and it's been working fine for quite some time now.

I never actually had either of those problems on my X800 AGP, but they took their time fixing it for those that did :shadedshu

Think it just affects cards with the rialto bridge chip. Could also be the X800 drivers haven't been updated due to age.

My X800 was fixed with 8.2. 7.8,7.9,8.0,8.1 wouldnt work with my Abit NF2.

Sorry to come off in any mean manner, but you just finally discover this? I been runnin the 8.1 Hotfix for awhile

Special Trick to the Hotfix- DO NOT INSTALL ONTOP OF ANOTHER DRIVER, Install by itself with the Applicable Stand alone CCC.

sorry to come off in a mean manner, BUT you never install a new driver over an old driver in the first place.

you must completely remove the old driver first with driver cleaner or the like the install the new driver

I know people who still had problems after 8.1 and had to roll back to 7.8 or earlier.

I imagine this is additional fixes to address those who still had issues.

didnt help much

i did a full uninstall of the previous drivers i was using and then installed the hotfix. It seems to freeze up and just do a solid bluescreen when trying to play a few games for me. Not all the time mind you just about half of it. So i will probably go back to the omega ones i was using.

doesnt sound like everything was uninstalled
