BFG Technologies, the leading North American and European supplier of advanced NVIDIA-based 3D graphics cards, power supplies, and other PC enthusiast products, announced today the BFG ES-800, an enthusiast level 800 watt power supply which has won numerous awards for its high efficiency and unique Frequency Conversion technology.

Exclusive in the industry, the ES features Frequency Conversion technology which allows the ES-800 to emulate virtually any size power supply. This makes the unit at least 80% efficient, even with loads as low as 10% of the unit's maximum capability. The ES-800 has the lowest minimum load requirements and the best +5VSB efficiency on the market. This best-in-class unit also features all Japanese made capacitors for longer life, and gold-plated pins for improved conductivity.

"Our goal with the ES-800 was to provide a power supply that can stand up to the most discerning enthusiasts and stand out as superior when compared to any other unit in its class", said Jon Gerow, power supply product manager for BFG Technologies, "We are delivering a flagship unit with low noise, high efficiency across the board, uncompromising build quality, and the ability to support virtually any SLI build-all in one package."

"The ES-800 is definitely a power supply deserving of the 'enthusiast' classification", said John Malley, senior director of marketing for BFG Technologies. "With its exceptional efficiency, cutting edge features that work as advertised, and killer good looks, this unit would fit perfectly into any tricked out rig designed to perform and impress."

The BFG ES-800 power supply is available at leading online retail outlets throughout North America and Europe. Visit http://www.bfgtech.com/bfgr800wespsu.aspx for more information.

KEY FEATURES and BENEFITS

80 PLUS Certified and Highly Efficient
While most computer power supplies pinnacle at 80% efficiency, the BFG ES Series is typically 80% to 85% efficient, which means more power drawn from the outlet is converted to DC power for your computer than many of the other units on the market. In order to achieve certification, the 80 PLUS performance specification requires power supplies in computers and servers to be 80% or greater energy efficient at 20%, 50% and 100% of rated load with a true power factor of 0.9 or greater.

Frequency Conversion Technology
The ES-800 can modulate its operating frequency and emulate a smaller PSU as needed. So while most power supplies are not very efficient at loads less than 20% of their total capability, the ES-800 is 80% efficient at loads as low as 10%.

800W Continuous Rating at 40°C
Rated at realistic operating temperature as opposed to room temperature like many other units on the market

BFG Thermal Control Technology
During regular operation, the fan slows down to reduce unnecessary noise. Furthermore, the 138MM ball bearing fan in the ES-800 has a start up voltage of only 3V, nearly half of most power supply fans on the market. This allows the fan to spin slower than 700 RPM at lower loads.

ATX12V 2.2 / EPS12V 2.91
Supports the latest Intel and AMD based platforms requiring 24-Pin motherboard and 4-Pin or 8-Pin 12V connectors. With the 20+4-Pin motherboard connector, it is also backward compatible with previous ATX standards.

Four 12V Rails
By splitting the +12V source into four separate rails, your components are provided the most stable power available while upholding rigorous safety standards. Over-current limiters are set higher than the standard 240VA to allow for ample overhead when using multiple high-end graphics cards or dual processors.

PCI Express Ready
The PCI Express power connectors ensure compatibility with high-end and dual graphics card configurations without having to use unreliable, often performance hindering adapters.

SATA Connectors
Six serial ATA connectors allow you to connect up to six serial ATA devices without needing special adapters.

If it wasn't, would you still buy it?

Personally, it's all about efficiency. Less heat from wasted electricity means I won't be sweating as much after I play Crysis for an hour.

Is it modular?

I predict down the road that people will start to have problems with modular. A direct soldered connection is best, depending on the metal material the companies use, where it connects resistance will slowly start to develop which will cause heat and eventual breakdown. Every once in awhile spray some cleaner inside connection just to be on the safe side, unless all the connections are gold plated.

It'd be very interesting to see how this compares to, let's say a Corsair TX750. Both have a 140mm fan and both claim the "efficiency" title as well as being quiet units...

If this was a single 12V+ rail with 70A + I would have bought it. More then two 12V+ Rails can cause it to lose amperage somehow and not get the full performance in SLI.

That depends entirely on the psu itself. Not all multi rail psus behave the same way.

Talking to BFG's reps at GeForce LAN 4... I think these may out perform the Corsair PSU line, Something I thought would not happen. The quality on these is supposed to be incredible.

Thats what Im wondering, though I dont know if they will outperform Corsairs. Their earlier lines, and even their 1000W Beast has had alot of bad press and reviews. This unit does look pretty awesome. Its going for 199.99 + 15.00 S/H on the egg. Also, it is not modular.

Well, of course the rep is gonna hype his company's psu and say it's better than it's competitor. I'll believe it when I see it.

Is it modular?

No. Unfortunately, we're going to have to wait for the whole Ultra modular patent BS to blow over before we start seeing a modular version. Be aware that a modular version does have slightly lower efficiency.

Umm.... ;)

You don't "lose amperage somehow". Not sure who's FUD you're trying to recite, but most split +12V rail PSU's have only one source. This source is then split into multiple +12V outputs. The more +12V rails you have actually reduces the likelihood of any kind of "trapped power" scenario and if you look at the label on this thing, the OCP (over current protection, aka "current limiters") are set to about doube what the connectors on each rail are supposed to support.

wizzard can you review this please?

w1zzard has one on the way.

Well, of course the rep is gonna hype his company's psu and say it's better than it's competitor. I'll believe it when I see it.

Damn good results. A completely new design from Adyson. Can't wait to see what these do out in the wild.

And for the record, I didn't doubt that somebody could meet or beat Corsair, I was just stating that all reps try to make you believe their product is superior, whether it is or isn't. That's their job.

No, you're right. Everyone wants to say their own products are the best and even go as far as writing completely made up FUD to make other products look inferior. ;)
