Ubisoft strengthens as one of the industry's largest independent publishers

With an overall 43% growth in sales over last year it is fair to say that Ubisoft is charging uphill and picking up speed. Much of the company's success is attributed to the fourth-quarter success of Rainbow Six Vegas 2, which sold almost 2 million units, and Assassin's Creed, which has sold over 6 million units. Ubisoft is a leading producer, publisher and distributor of interactive entertainment products worldwide and has grown considerably through a strong and diversified line-up of products and partnerships. Ubisoft has offices in 24 countries and sales in 55 countries around the globe. It is committed to delivering high-quality, cutting-edge video game titles to consumers. For the 2007-08 fiscal year Ubisoft forecasts generated sales of approximately 920 million Euros.

I haven't been disapointed with any of my Ubisoft Titles yet. Hope that trend continues thru their success, and they never become another EA.

yea they did some very bad ports of a few games like splinter cell double agent and r6vegas but vegas 2 was slightly better this time

vegas 2 is a world beyond vegas 1.

A few things that vegas 1 had wrong:
*No widescreen support.
*Excessive motion blur/blurring - caused lower FPS, and made the game look horrible
*Terrible performance on anything less than an 8800GT, we couldnt even lan the game without modding it.
*Quite plain, it wasnt innovative as a game.

Thankfully those are all fixed in #2 - you can even customise the looks of your character, and the coop mode (while locked to 2 players) has had a LOT more thought put into it. The inbuilt voice chat is perfect for a 2 player coop game, i just finished the game on casual today via that method.

Still, that headline made me a bit sick to my stomach..(I have watched them slash the whole TC series to dumbed down shoot em up console ports from the once precise and tactical games they once were...)

Dumbed down console games are really annoying... vegas 2 is not one. The multiplayer is a bit lacking, but the effort put in to make the 2 player coop mode work properly is a good sign. Its a brilliant way to play the game, and i hope it stays that way in future titles (with more players, perhaps)

Ubi killed the Rainbow series.
They made a muck of EverQuest 2.

In a majority of their games, the same kinds of problems whether software or hardware-dependant related are results of the same shortcut development and programming that we've seen from EA.

Both of them sit on the same rung in the development ladder for me, far far below companies like the old Sierra, Novalogic and etc.


Mussels, I agree RSV2 is better than 1, but really..not like a sequel should be. Basically, it's what RSV1 SHOULD have been, and even then it's still lacking.


I've seen some pretty bad calls by software companies before, though this one by Ubi rates up there quite high.

vegas 2 is what 1 should have been. seriously as a 2 player coop game its quite a blast - the game never crashed once (after patching it to 1.01) no glitches/screwups were observed - and the second human player actually was useful. he could see things i couldnt in cinematics, and it was downright brilliant being able to coordinate and game like that. AI minions in one door, me a 2nd while my buddy did sniper fire from a roof. Seriously, i think more players would have made it less fun.

Well, I'm happy with my current Ubi titles, which includes R6:V, GRAW1, and GRAW2. Still better than EA games so far. But with this kind of success usually come extreme corporate greed, and therefore steadily decreasing quality.

I agree UBI is definately too big for it's own good but a good title does manage to work its way out very often!
