pc freezes when palying games can u help??

when using the pc for games such as coh or cod4 I get random freezes, sometimes you can ctrl alt del them sometimes you cant, my specs are:

E8400
ASUS P5K-e
4gb PC-8500 REAPER
700w COOLERMASTER PSU
X-FI
SEAGATE BARRACUDA 160gb HARD DRIVE.
WATERCOOLED

System details are:

ram set at 1066
cpu set at 333 x 9
ram set at 555-15 at 2.2v
cpu set at 1.2v
nb voltage set at 1.40v
sb voltage set at 1.05v
cpu temp - 32 deg C idle.
cpu temp - 42 deg C load
gfx temp - 39 deg C. idle

psu voltages are:

3.3v - 3.312v
5v - 4.968v
12v - 11.984v

things I've tried:
under clocking the ram and gfx.
Altering the voltages from auto to 1.325v
running all types of monitoring software, prime, atitool

its doing my fruit in - please help.

Your cpu and NB voltages are too high, that's for sure. For a 8400 at stock it should only be around 1.2volts max. The NB around 1.35v's

just changed the cpu to 1.2v and the nb to 1.4v.

as soon as i turned the game on it froze...

Have you checked to make sure your heatsinks or water blocks are sitting right? Didn't use to much TIM did ya?!

Very curious issue. Maybe two components hating each other. Have you tried flashing new bios?

yep tried that one - its got 1013 bios the new one.

Agree with you on that!! I think my Asus board is bad cause my Wireless N card wasn't showing up at all on my system but bring it to work to test it and it works fine, mybe better than it did at home.

voltages being a little high wont crash the system.. too low will..

the latest one striaght from nvidia. the card is the 640 version.

no tested for that, even on full load and with the 3d cube on atitool on - the gfx peaked at 42 deg c and the cpu peaked at 43 deg c.

yeah it may be going back and swop it for good old abit or I may try a gigabyte.

its showing 1.172v with the bios set at 1.2v.

put it up to 1.3 and see if the problems go away.. u can always tweak it slowly down bit by bit afterwards till they start to come back.. he he

mine is running at 1.34 under load at 4 gig.. run something while looking at cpu-z to make sure there aint any vdroop.. go by the under load voltage not the idle voltage..

1.3 wont do it any harm for test purposes.. if the problem goes away u know what it was.. fine tune afterwards..

not all mobos get these 45nm chips right..

1.3 is fine, infact his CPU voltage sounds a bit low at what its currently at...

Also... did he update the bios on that p5k-e board?
I recently got the latest bios for mine and it has fixes for the new 45nm chips.

Its a usb bios flash, so its easy... no floppy drive needed

mmay sound a little weird but try to push left alt and left shift at once when playing it can has nothing to do with your computer. i had the same problem on cod4 and it came up that pressing alt + shift causes freezes. Call me nuts but try...

BIOS flash would be my next guess.

if all of the voltage changes etc dont work, id either blame the mobo or possible CPU instability - run ORTHOS or OCCT or even Prime95 to check that area. If none of those still, Id try fresh installing the games, seeing as your in a no loss situation really. Just remember to back your profile up for COD4, i made that mistake a few weeks back.

out the box the P5K-E does not support the 45nm chips.... (well mine diddnt at least...) go to asus site and downoad the latest bios... then try again

also try booting up with everything on auto in bios... just take off speedstep etc... see if that helps.
Then tweak till you have your original settings

i wonder if i have found the problem.

about a year ago I got fluid on the sound card, a couple of times its played up but only a couple.

now today, its not picking it up at all, it doesnt see its there.

could that be the problem??

i highly doubt it, but that could be causing some kind of interfearence with your motherboard - remove it and cross your fingers. Good luck!

Have you tested your ram lately?

Reasoning is this.....4X1GB stix require more voltage (Assumtion as it only says 4GB)....also 4-4-4-15 is really tight at 1066 speeds. Lastly I had ram issues on an older ABIT that would make the soundcard dissapear at times, the only way to get it to read again was to swap out the ram!

do i hear a reccomendation of memtest coming along?
