OK, everyone knows that flat CRTs are the way to go when it comes to gaming, so here's what i wanna know, what's a good one? I'm looking at 17"-19" less than $250, must be flat.

I'm currently looking at some 17" - 19" NEC/Mitsubishi and Viewsonics, but I was wondering if anyone else had better suggestions.

Also, preferences on shadow mask against aperature grille.

This doesn't really answer your question but it might be relevant anyway.

I recommend checking local computer stores for deals on off-lease monitors. I've been able to get 21" perfectly flat CRTs for $280 CAD ($215 USD?). Obviously there's a certain amount of risk involved but if they're certified grade A+ and come with even a 30-day warranty, I think it's worth considering.

I got an NEC MultiSync FP1350X for my birthday. It's a great 22" flat CRT monitor. Features input for analog D-Sub, DVI-I, AND a USB interface for controlling the monitor through software. MSRP from June, 2000 was $999. It may or may not fall in to your price range now. By the way:

I've got the Viewsonic G90fb and I love it. It may not be the newest technology but who cares.
