alright so the raid1 array went corrupt and im trying to rebuild it so that i dont have to reinstall the OS and all programs.

first off, im not 100% sure that is possible. is it?

and when i rebuild the array i did it the exact same way it was last time but when i hit F7 to finish another message will come up saying do you want to clear all data. does that mean do i want to erase all the data off of my hard drive? or just the array data from the hard drive?

if you could help me out it would be greatly appreciated because this is a business computer and i kind of need the programs and data.

That depends, raid 1 is mirror so as long as one drive is good you should be okay.

Do you have hardware raid, software raid or fake raid?

hardware raid.

what happened was when i booted the computer up, in the raid boot section it said:
"Detecting array...
0 REBUILD NVIDIA MIRROR 232.88G"

and then on the next screen it would say ENTER BOOT OR SYSTEM DISK blah blah blah

so i went in and rebuilt the array, but when i hit F7 to finish another message would come up saying "clear all data, yes or no" and i selected no because i dont know whether or not that clears all the data off my hard drive.

Thats not hardware raid, thats fake raid. And yes you need to clear all your data, what its going to do is format your second harddrive and re-create the mirror. Just make sure you are clearing the right drive :)

Fake Raid- is mainboard level raid, a controller that uses a driver pretty much, software raid is using say Windows OS to create a raid array, hardware requires a hardware controller, it has its own processor and ram and controls your raid, generally these start around $200 and go up well over $1000.

I'm not sure exactly how nvidia raid works... But I generally try to get into windows and let the software from windows do it, generally much easier and straight forward tells you more too...

Might want to try looking in the manual for the raid also.

Try to disconnect one of the drives and then try the other, see if you can boot singaly, if not you are probably going to need another machine to backup the data and re-format.

The wonderful issues of fake raid :(

Fake RAID? That's a nice thing you made up there.

It's a software RAID solution, meaning the CPU handles the calculation instead of a dedicated chip. Not really relevant. The whole point of RAID1 is data redundancy by mirroring, rebuilding the array shouldn't be a problem. I recommend entering the controllers BIOS and looking for an option there.
I never used NV's solution so I can't tell you something more useful.

On a different note, the fact that you can't boot basically means the setup failed its purpose. It should boot up just fine with a single disk. Can you access any data from a bootable CD or something?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAID

Firmware/driver based RAID ("fake RAID")

In other words, common term for mainboard based raid that use firmware and drivers.

Could try windows repair install.

if i plug in the drives externally to another computer everything is there. system files, program files, everything...no matter which disk it is.

im guessing somehow system files got corrupt or deleted and it mirrored it to the second drive because obviously, whatever the first one does the second one will do. so thats probably why it keeps asking for system disk. neither of the hard drives is dead, failed, or is failing. they both work fine ran check disks and test.

i have no problem reinstalling, its just i cant locate any of my quickbook files that i need, thats why im trying to rebuild it. anyone happen to know where quickbooks 2006 stores the data files?

I can add "magical fairy RAID" to wikipedia if I wish.

It's a pretty common term to be perfectly honest. I have been dealing with corporate networks for a few years and you hear it consistantly from system/network admins and engineers.

Might be more popular of a term in the US.... :ohwell:

Boot off your Windows disk, start the recovery console and use fixboot and fixmbr.
